Episode 69: Legendary Fisherman (2)

At the duel, both duelists trade some insults before Joey draws and plays Baby Dragon (1200) in Attack Mode. Mako suggests a life preserver for it but Joey uses Polymerization to bring out Alligator's Sword Dragon (1700) in Attack Mode, knowing full well of the rule preventing Fusion Monsters from attacking right away and plans to defeat Mako next turn. Mako waits for no one and sets a monster completely hidden underwater. Joey takes advantage by attacking directly with ASD, leaving Mako down to 1600 LPs. Mako isn't giving up, remembering his disastrous fishing trip with his father, then sets 1 card face down for this turn. Joey goes straight for the attack but Mako activates Tornado Wall, blocking all of Joey's attacks. (The real card makes Battle Damage you take 0.)

Mako tributes his hidden monster for Sea Stealth II - The Legendary Fisherman (Just The Legendary Fisherman in the CG) (1850) in Attack Mode and Joey goes to activate Energy Drain (which has Silent Doom's artwork instead for US as shown at 5:27 into the US episode and the real card is a Trap Card that gives your monster 200 ATK for each card in your opponent's hand for the turn) and make Mako's monsters' ATK 0 but TLF's effect makes it unaffected by Spell Cards while Umi is in play and TLF takes out ASD to leave Joey's score down to 3050. Joey sets a monster that gets attacked, revealed as Tiny Guardian (1800) in Defense Mode and destroyed by Mako's next attack before Mako further tells his story of his time with his father. Joey then sets 1 card and 1 monster in Defense Mode to end his turn. Mako uses Fortress Whale's Oath to tribute 2 monsters (which look to be Great White and Jellyfish) in his hand for Fortress Whale (2350) in Attack Mode.

Meanwhile, Marik and Dark Bakura settle their deal (which I thought had been settled earlier, given their colored glowing). Back at the duel, Mako's monster gets another 200 ATK for a new total of 2550 and Mako attacks with his monsters, destroying Joey's hidden Rocket Warrior (1300) in Defense Mode and leaves Joey down to 500 Life Points. Tea` realizes that one shadow in the water must be the Legendary Fisherman. Joey sets 2 cards and summons Panther Warrior (2000) in Attack Mode to end his turn. Mako attacks with FW but Joey activates Magic Arm Shield to make TLF the new attack target, destroying it and leaving Mako down to 900 LPs. Mako is now feeling down about destroying the memories of his father but learns they've been inside him the whole time and attacks with FW (despite having already attacked) but Joey activates Kunai with Chain, stopping FW's attack and raising PW's ATK by 500 to 2500.

Joey attacks (despite his monster needing a tribute) and activates his face down Lighting Blade, raising his monster's ATK by 800 to 3300. (The real card can only be equipped to a Warrior-Type monster and Panther Warrior here is a Beast-Warrior, not quite the same.) FW falls and Mako is down to 150 LPs. (In the CG, Mako would've lost because LB also lowers the ATK of all WATER monsters by 500.) Mako uses Return of the Doomed, letting him bring back a monster and hide it underwater. (The real card returns 1 monster destroyed by battle and sent to your Graveyard this turn back to your hand by discarding 1 card.)

Joey uses Giant Trunade to return all Spell and Trap Cards on the field back to the hands and it reveals Mako's revived Legendary Fisherman. Joey then uses Scapegoat and tributes 1 so his Panther Warrior can attack and destroys TLF to win the duel. Mako dries his tears and wishes Joey luck in the finals. Meanwhile, Kaiba and Yami found where Joey was last seen and Kaiba agrees to proceed if Yami agrees to duel him. Yami protests that it isn't a game and Kaiba will get his duel. He'd better follow Kaiba in that case and they'd better not be too late!
