Episode 43: Legendary Heroes (1)

Inside their meeting room, Kaiba orders his associates out but lightens up slightly when he learns they've readied his virtual pods for market distribution. Despite Mokuba's questioning, Kaiba gets in his pod (though there appear to be multiples according to the screen he's reading) and safely makes it to the virtual reality. He's confronted by a Two-Headed King Rex and takes it out with ease with his Blue-Eyes White Dragon. (Only the cards they play will be given the usual color coding and be posted below this box) However, an Armed Ninja brings a Dragon Capture Jar with it and captures both the Blue-Eyes and Kaiba himself, leaving Mokuba alone and trapped.

Pegasus' goons arrive only to discover that Mokuba is gone. One of Kaiba's associates assures another that Mokuba will come back since Kaiba is still there. Inside Solomon's Game Shop, Joey is making payment when Mokuba enters and tells them what's happened. Yugi and friends assure that they'll enter the game and rescue Kaiba. Mokuba shows them the way to and joins two of them into the pods before Tristan activates them (Since when does he know how to get them going?) The trio arrive safely too and everything looks pretty real to Joey. They encounter an Armored Zombie, Dragon Zombie and Clown Zombie so Mokuba brings out Rude Kaiser. Yugi and Joey follow suit with Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman respectively and aid in the attacks but the monsters come back stronger.

Having defeated them once before, Joey uses Shield & Sword to make the zombie monsters' ATKs 0 and Yugi's Dark Magician finishes them off. They receive a card with 5 points on it and Yugi figures it's part of a scoring system but their LPs aren't being restored, which can't be a good thing. A Key Mace appears and convinces the gang to follow. They discover a village that sells Duel Monsters cards and Joey wants the Zera the Mant card but it's more points than they have (it really shouldn't be worth anything considering it's a terrible card and it looks like he has all of the vanilla Ritual monsters, which might explain why none have been bought along with the ridiculous price).

They ask around and Mokuba learns of a temple on the other side of the desert they now see. Their attempt to cross the desert is unsuccessful and learn they must get a Niwatori card, which can only be won (some prize card. I don't care how rare it is if it's terrible. In the CG, it's worthless as it should be). None of the card shops they visit has the card but Yugi finds an announcement about a contest where the card can be won (yet all I see is the card itself, which doesn't tell me anything so I can't fathom how they can read anything else on the sign). Wherever they end up, a freakish being hands Joey the volunteer his outfit and upon entry, Joey gets ridiculed but he prefers these insults to what he's been called before. Joey discovers the champion is a girl that's ready to rumble!
