Episode 38: Match of the Millennium - Yugi vs. Pegasus (4)

Still at the location where the guards had cornered them, Bakura restates his demand and threat. At first, Tristan resists, then changes his mind but knocks out Bakura as well and throws his Millennium Ring into the air. Back at the duel, Joey and Tea` watch the Shadow Realm cloud appear but only Yugi from inside recognizes what's going on. Tristan arrives after having his adventure and a half, explaining what he went through but learning of the Shadow Realm cloud he now observes, is less known. Yu-Gi-Oh takes over for Yugi as Yugi is feeling weak but they can't abandon their mind shuffle strategy as it's been working thus far. After Yu-Gi-Oh's apparent turn passage, Pegasus plays Dark-Eyes Illusionist (0000) in Attack Mode (Hmm, D-EI has only 1 star on its card here but two in the Japanese at 5:59 into the episode.), a monster created just for their duel. Oops! At 6:10 into the episode, D-EI has 0 DEF when we just saw it with the correct 1400 DEF on its card! (It's DEF IS 0 in the Japanese so perhaps the error is on the card itself not the graphic with its ATK and DEF.)

It couldn't possibly be as harmful as it looks but Yu-Gi-Oh is suspicious, playing Curse of Dragon (2000) in Attack Mode. Yugi decides to take over for a bit but Pegasus knows how little time Yugi has left. His friends feel a sharp jolt and realize Yugi must be in some kind of trouble. Pegasus sets 1 card and  Yugi agrees to let Yu-Gi-Oh take over for now and Yu-Gi-Oh attacks, activating D-EI's effect to stop the attack. (The real card has a Flip-Effect that would therefore only be activated if attacked face down.) Pegasus activates his hidden Black Illusion Ritual card to tribute his D-EI for Relinquished (0000) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to take CoD (why not Dark Magician, whom is stronger and therefore could've left Yu-Gi-Oh defenseless?).

Yu-Gi-Oh attacks but CoD is used as a shield for Relinquished and is taken out instead, leaving Yu-Gi-Oh's score down to 400. (The real card still forces you to take the Battle Damage.) After a brief mental argument, Yugi takes control, knowing he must play fast. He sets 1 card and plays Feral Imp (1400) in Defense Mode. Pegasus takes it out easily and Yugi finally collapses. Yu-Gi-Oh can't sense his spirit anymore and Pegasus tries to tell him that it's just the two of them now. Yugi's friends feel it and discover that the Shadow Realm cloud keeps Pegasus and Yugi and and them out.

For what Pegasus has done, Yugi, now Yu-Gi-Oh from hereon out, will show no mercy, playing Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress (" ") in Defense Mode to complete his turn and now Pegasus can return to reading Yu-Gi-Oh's mind but has no knowledge of the face down card left by Yugi in his final moments. Pegasus takes out WDGotF before playing Jigen Bakudan (200) in Attack Mode, a monster immune to attacks and in 2 turns will destroy all monsters in play, dealing Yu-Gi-Oh damage equal to his monster's ATK and he'll lose. (The real card has a Flip-Effect that forces you to tribute itself and destroy all monsters you control, dealing your opponent damage equal to half your destroyed monsters' combined ATK.) As much as Yu-Gi-Oh hates to admit, he's failed Yugi and his friends. Yugi's grandpa and the Kaiba brothers are doomed!
