Episode 102: The Dark Mist Rises (2)
At the duel, Yuma narrowly escapes multiple axe blows before Astral sets 2 cards to end his turn. Number 96: Dark Mist draws and plays Malicevorous Knife (600) in Attack Mode. Next, he uses MK's effect to Special Summon a 2nd Malicevorous Knife. (The real card cannot Special Summon a copy of itself.) With that, he uses his two MKs as Xyz Material for Number 65: Djinn Buster (1300) in Attack Mode. After that, he attacks with his holographic copy, letting him use his copy's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and give it half of Utopia's ATK, bringing its ATK up to 2350 and Utopia down to 750. As a result, Astral uses Utopia's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and negate the attack. However, Dark Mist is ready and uses Number 65's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself, negate Utopia's effect and deal Astral 500 damage, bringing Astral down to 3500 LPs. (The real card forces you to detach 2 Xyz Materials from itself to negate an Effect Monster's effect.)
His attacks leave Astral defenseless and down to just 600 LPs before Dark Mist ends his turn. While Kite and Orbital 7 approach the area from above, Astal draws and uses Xyz Treasure to draw 1 card per Xyz Monster out and with 2 Xyz Monster out, Astral draws twice. Next he equips Explossum (100) onto Dark Mist. Should Dark Mist run out of Xyz Materials, Explossum will destroy it. (The real card also detaches an Xyz Material during each of the opponent's Standby Phases.) Once again, Dark Mist uses Number 65's effect once more to detach an Xyz Material from itself, negate Explossum's effect and deal Astral 500 damage, bringing Astral down to 100 and returning Explossum to Astral's field.
Astral isn't done as he uses Tribute Ticket to let Explossum count as 2 Tributes for a Tribute Summon and Tributes Explossum for Swordsman of Revealing Light (2400) in Defense Mode, preventing Small Stopper's effect from activating. However, Dark Mist notes that since Astral doesn't have the power he himself has, Astral cannot absorb Chaos Xyz monsters. Yuma assures he'll be fine and just wants Astral to win but Astral wants to keep Yuma out of harm's way and ends his turn. Dark Mist draws and uses Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force to use Number 65 as Xyz Material for Chaos Number 65: King Overfiend (Number C65: King Overfiend in the CG) (1600) in Attack Mode. Due to King Overfiend's first effect, Yuma cannot activate monster effects.
Worse still, Dark Mist uses its other effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and lower Swordsman of Revealing Light's ATK and DEF by 1000, bringing SoRL's DEF down to 1400. (In the CG, this wouldn't work as the affected monster needs to have some ATK and some DEF to use the effect as you cannot drop below 0.) His first attack with his holographic copy takes out the weakened SoRL but the 2nd forces Astral to activate Xyz Reborn to revive Number 39: Utopia (2500) in Attack Mode, then make itself an Xyz Material for Utopia. Yuma goes on a guilt trip before Astral stops him and asks if there's anything that can be done to his advantage. After scanning his surroundings, he finds another pillar and a way to get there so Astral doesn't have to worry.
Dark Mist sets 1 card to end his turn and Yuma manages to get across to the other pillar using the axe. However, Vector doesn't give up and tries to smash Yuma from above but Yuma escapes to the ground, leaving Astral to now duel normally. Confident his victory is assured, Astral draws and uses Utopia as Xyz Material for Chaos Number 39: Utopia Ray (Number C39: Utopia Ray in the CG (2500) in Attack Mode. Next he activates Superior Overlay to destroy Dark Mist's monsters since his own monster has more Xyz Materials. King Overfiend is destroyed but Dark Mist saves his doppelganger by using its effect, leaving it unable to use its effect. Astral was able to know the plan before it even began because Dark Mist overestimated his strategy and underestimated Yuma and Astral.
Astral uses Utopia Ray's effect twice to detach 2 Xyz Materials from itself, raise its ATK by 1000 to 3500 and lower Dark Mist's ATK by 2000 to 350. His attack forces Dark Mist to activate Chaos Return to negate the attack, then discard 1 card and use the effect of Barian's Force once more to use Dark Mist as Xyz Material for Chaos Number 96: Dark Storm (Number C96: Dark Storm in the CG) (1000) in Attack Mode. As a bonus, Dark Storm himself also undergoes a transformation before using CR's other effect to force Utopia Ray to attack. Consequently, Dark Storm is destroyed and as a result, both players take the Battle Damage, ending the duel in a draw. (The real card cannot be destroyed in battle, though that wouldn't have changed the outcome of this duel.) Worse still, Vector decides to destroy the ruins and crush anyone inside.
Just when Yuma is about to plunge into the abyss, Kite and Orbital rescue him while the others escape. Once outside, the group explains to Kite what happened and why they were there in the first place. Meanwhile, Dark Mist regrets having ever joined forces with Vector and departs, hoping to never need Vector again. Vector wants Dark Mist back but Don Thousand has a more important task for Vector as it's time to awaken two new individuals.
