Episode 89: Darkness Dawns
At the area where Alito was attacked, Yuma and Ray conduct an investigation of sorts and Yuma learns how far down the path he has to go before he earns an official Barian Police Badge. While it's the coolest thing Yuma has ever seen, bringing up Astral's condition takes away the excitement as Yuma figures Astral is still healing. Regardless, Yuma cannot tell Astral about Ray's status as Barian. It's an order Yuma agrees to follow and Astral meanwhile notes that he has to get stronger if he and Yuma are to continue winning duels. A voice interrupts him and it's Number 96: Dark Mist, whom is unsuccessful at convincing Astral to join him. In class, Yuma tries to contact Astral to no avail so he requests a trip to the nurse's office. Inside the key, Astral faces The Door of Destiny, whom says to pass the test to find out his path or lose everything should he fail.
His test comes in the form of a duel and while in the nurse's office, Yuma is dragged into the key and learns of the situation before duel preparations get underway. The entity draws and plays Bubble Breeder (0000) in Attack Mode. Next he discards 1 card for a second Bubble Breeder (0000) in Attack Mode. Then he uses Monster Reborn to revive the (discarded) third Bubble Breeder. After that, he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Unformed Void (0000) in Attack Mode. With that done, he plays Overlay World to deal any players without an Xyz Monster 500 damage at the end of the turn and banish any Xyz Monster that is destroyed (by battle more specifically). Since he's done, Yuma takes 500 damage by OW's effect as he controls no Xyz Monsters, bringing him down to 3500. Next he and Astral draw before Normal Summoning Dododo Warrior (2300) in Attack Mode by lowering its ATK by 500 to 1800. Next they use Fourcing to discard 1 card (Ganbara Lancer) to Special Summon a Level 4 Spellcaster-Type monster like Gagaga Magician (1500) in Attack Mode.
After that, they use Monster Reborn to revive the discarded Ganbara Lancer (1000) in Attack Mode. Since GL counts as 2 Xyz Materials for an Xyz Summon, they use it as Xyz Material for Number 61: Volcasaurus (2500) in Attack Mode. (The real GL Special Summons another copy of itself when it's Normal Summoned.) Now, he uses GM's effect to make it a Level 6 monster, then uses it and DW as Xyz Material for Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis (2600) in Attack Mode. With that done, they use Number 6's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and halve their opponent's LPs to 2000. When they go to attack, their opponent activates UV's effect to have it gain ATK equal to the ATK of the other Xyz Monsters, raising its ATK to 5100. Yuma isn't worried and uses Number 61's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself, destroy UV and deal its ATK to their opponent but due to OW's effect, Xyz Monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects.
As a result, Yuma ends his turn so their opponent draws and due to UV's other effect, it negates the effects of the monster it's battling (not so with the real card) so it takes out Number 6 to leave Yuma and Astral down to 1000 LPs. After Number 96 appears to try again without success, Yuma draws and sets a monster, then switches Number 61 to Defense Mode before their opponent uses UV's first effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and gain ATK equal to the total ATK of all other Xyz Monsters out, raising its ATK to 7600. Finally, Yuma sets 1 card to end his turn so their opponent draws and takes out Number 61 before ending its turn, leaving Yuma and Astral down to 500 LPs by OW's effect.
Faced with no other option, Astral frees Number 96: Dark Mist and gets Yuma to agree to bring out the card before drawing. Next he Flip Summons Magical Undertaker to Attack Mode. Next, he uses MU's effect to Special Summon Gagaga Magician from his Graveyard. Then he Special Summons Caligo Claw Crow (900) in Attack Mode since he controls a DARK monster. After that, he uses GM's effect to make it a Level 2 monster. After some final convincing, Yuma uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Number 96: Dark Mist (100) in Attack Mode. Dark Mist assures that their troubles are over and attacks with himself, then activates his effect to detach an Xyz Material from himself and gain half the ATK of UV, bringing UV down to 3800 and raising Dark Mist's ATK to 3900. Furthermore, Yuma does what Astral wants and activates Battle Restart to attack again.
As a result, Dark Mist again gains half of UV's ATK by detaching an Xyz Material, raising its ATK to 5800 and bringing UV's ATK down to 1900. Dark Mist's attack with himself takes out UV to win the duel and pass the test. As a result, Yuma and Astral, are shown the very card that has all answers called the Numeron Code and they'll need more numbers to find out more about the card. With that, Yuma, Astral and Dark Mist emerge from the key before Dark Mist disappears, assuring they'll meet again. That evening, Yuma explains what happened while Astral wonders if he'll really need Dark Mist's help again.
