Episode 67: Sphere of Fear (3)
At the duel, Vetrix is impressed that Yuma used Bacon Saver's effect but knows Yuma can't do that again and suggests giving up but Yuma refuses as too many people are counting on him to win. Vetrix feels Yuma will only let them down and draws before activating Number 69's effect copied from Utopia Ray to detach an Xyz Material, then give itself 500 ATK to 3600 and drop Utopia Ray's ATK by 1000 to 2700. His attack forces Yuma to activate Half Unbreak to prevent his monster's destruction and halve the Battle Damage, bringing his score down to just 50. Once again, Vetrix is reminded of Yuma's father and considers Yuma just as big of a loser but Yuma doesn't want his father to be talked about that way and Astral gets Yuma to relax as Number 69 is out of Xyz Materials.
It's only temporary though as Vetrix uses Heraldic Beast Twin-Headed Eagle's effect from the Graveyard to remove itself from play and give Number 69 2 Xyz Materials. Finally, he sets 1 card to end his turn. Yuma is feeling weak, and hungry but Astral can't see how one can think of food when they're on the verge of losing. However, Yuma remembers the food Tori gave him before the duel started and eats it, gaining enough energy to continue. Even Astral chows down for the first time and is enjoying the resulting feeling he gets. When they finish, they draw and equips Utopia Ray with Zexal Weapon - Tornado Bringer (ZW - Tornado Bringer in the CG), raising Utopia Ray's ATK by 1300 to 5000.
Furthermore, Vetrix can't destroy Utopia Ray and Lightning Blade is already protecting his Spells and Traps. His attack forces Vetrix to activate Heraldry Burst to negate the attack, end the Battle Phase and return both of Yuma's Zexal Weapon monsters to his hand, returning Utopia Ray's ATK to 2500. Worse still, at the end of the turn, Yuma will take 500 damage for each card returned and with two returned he'll take 1000 damage. They won't give up and activate ZEXAL Catapult to Special Summon Zexal Weapon - Lightning Blade (" ") (1200) in Attack Mode. Vetrix is ready and uses Number 69's effect to steal ZWLB's effects. Nevertheless, Yuma activates Amarylease' effect in the Graveyard to remove itself from play and Summon Zexal Weapon - Tornado Bringer without Tributing.
After Vetrix steals Tornado Bringer's effects, Yuma and Astral show there's more to it and use their ZW monsters as Xyz Material for Zexal Weapon - Leo Arms (Z.W. - Leo Arms in the CG) (3000) in Attack Mode and equips it to Utopia Ray, giving it 3000 ATK to 5500. Due to ZW - Leo Arms, Utopia Ray can attack once more and this isn't what Vetrix had anticipated but Vetrix realizes that the 2 ZW monsters Yuma had are gone and uses Number 69's effect to destroy Utopia Ray but Leo Arms' effect negates the effect and halves Number 69's ATK to 1550. (The real Leo Arms has neither of these effects and also forces its owner to get rid of it to let it attack again.) Their attack connects, taking out Number 69 to win the duel.
While the crowd celebrates, Mr. Heartland hadn't anticipated this either but celebrates nonetheless. However, the Sphere Field is dissipating but both are feeling Dr. Faker's wrath as he's decided to the the Numbers anyway. Vetrix is no match for Dr. Faker and moves towards an open portal but Yuma intercepts and pulls him away, using a Zexal Weapon as an anchor. However, Vetrix admits that the Sphere Field was taking the power of the Number cards as Dr. Faker knew the finalists would have them and could then put the final pieces of his plan into place. Vetrix wants Yuma to let go of him to perhaps save himself but Yuma refuses as he considers Vetrix his friend because of their duel. Vetrix now understands that Yuma duels for friendship and cannot duel in that way.
As a result, Vetrix releases all the souls he's captured before letting go of Yuma and apologizing to his family before plunging into the portal. Shark, having left to run to Yuma's aid, arrives in time to see Yuma and Astral disappear. The Sphere Field has taken them to see Dr. Faker, whom has been waiting for this moment for a while and is now ready for the grand finale, the total destruction of Astral World!
