Episode 57: Depths of Darkness
After Mr. Heartland gets the crowd hyped up for the next match, Yuma and Astral seek out an energy source in the tunnel. Meanwhile, Shark and Quattro arrive at the Magma Field and trash talk. With two fangirls cheering Quattro on, their duel begins as Shark draws and plays Plate Salvage to negate the Magma Field Field Spell's effects for 2 turns. Yuma and Tori arrive in time to assess the situation but Astral is the one to realize that the Magma Field is on hold. Vetrix appears, having set the stage for this duel ages ago and is keeping an eye on the duel as Shark plays Tripod Fish (300) in Attack Mode. Next he Special Summons Shark Stickers (200) in Attack Mode since he controls a Fish-Type monster.
Now, he he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Submersible Carrier Aero Shark (1900) in Attack Mode. After that, he uses SCAS' effect to deal Quattro 400 damage per card in his own hand, making Quattro take 1200 damage to leave him down to 2800 LPs. Finally, he sets 2 cards to end his turn but this is what Quattro wanted. Quattro draws and Special Summons Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll (1000) in Attack Mode since Shark has an Xyz Monster while he himself has no monsters. (The real card is Special Summoned when you control a Gimmick Puppet monster and your opponent controls any monster.) Then he summons Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer (100) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to make it Magna Doll's Level. Oops! At 6:02 into the US episode, the visual showing the Level change has swapped the Levels of the two monsters instead of making them the same!
Since they're both Level 8, Quattro uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder (1500) in Attack Mode. However, Mr. Heartland is suffering technical difficulties and loses video feed courtesy of Vetrix, whom wants privacy for the duel. Worse still, Quattro uses Number 15's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself, destroy SCAS and deal Shark 1900 damage, bringing him down to 2100. His direct attack forces Shark to activate Bubble Bringer to negate the attack but Plate Salvage's effect expires, returning the Magma Field into view. Nevertheless, Shark draws and summons Hammer Shark (1700) in Attack Mode. Next, he uses BB's other effect to send itself to the Graveyard and revive Tripod Fish in Attack Mode.
Since TF was Special Summoned, it gains 1 Level to Level 4. Just when Shark would lose his monsters, Shark activates Adapt to Adversity to prevent his WATER monsters from being destroyed by Spell or Trap Cards. Furthermore, TF counts as 2 Xyz Materials so he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Number 32: Shark Drake (2800) in Attack Mode. Quattro notes that it's formerly Trey's Number card but it's all part of Vetrix's plan and not telling was part of it. Vetrix was just using Quattro to make Shark angry and allow the Number monster to possess Shark. Shark takes out Number 15 to leave Quattro down to 1500 LPs but Shark uses Shark Drake's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself, revive Number 15: Giant Grinder in Attack Mode, lower its ATK by 1000 to 500, and attack it again. However, Quattro is prepared with a countermeasure and Special Summons Gimmick Puppet Twilight Joker (800) in Attack Mode by removing from play Number 15.
Seeing no harm in telling them, Vetrix duplicates his hologram self and explains everything. Quattro protests that Vetrix is making a mistake and claims to be the better duelist but when Vetrix says otherwise, Quattro is determined to prove them all by beating Shark in the duel. Quattro draws and plays Gimmick Puppet Ritual (Puppet Ritual in the CG) to revive Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll from the Graveyard. (The real card requires your opponent to have at least 2000 LPs more than your opponent and Special Summons 2 Level 8 Gimmick Puppet monsters from your Graveyard, which Quattro here couldn't do because he meets only the first requirement.) With that done, he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings (3000) in Attack Mode.
Worse still, he equips it with String of Destiny to reveal his Deck's next card and if it's a Monster Card, Number 40 can attack a number of times equal to its Level. Since he revealed a Level 8 monster, Number 40 can attack 8 times but the other monster cannot be destroyed in battle. As the attacks proceed, Vetrix taunts Yuma after binding his energy up with chains. Finally the attacks end and Shark is down to 500 LPs but Quattro isn't done as he uses Number 40's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and put a String Counter on Shark Drake. After Shark's next turn, Shark Drake will be destroyed and Shark will take damage equal to its ATK. Quattro's turn may be over but it's not looking good for Shark!
