Episode 30: No Tomato
We find one World Duel Carnival participant winning multiple duels and thus multiple Heart Pieces, leaving his opponents on the ground with a mouthful of vegetables. Nistro and Dextra arrive at the latest victim and while it seems like a murder (which'd be pretty dark for a kids show), Dextra is quick to note that it's tomato juice. Meanwhile, Yuma is chowing on rice balls and too hungry to eat normally. However, a crow snatches his last rice ball until the duelist from earlier offers him some cucumbers. They go over well and the duelist reveals not only his love for Tori but that he grew the veggies himself. They never got his name and he reveals himself as Tombo Tillbitty, a tomato fanatic. He plans to win the Duel Carnival and make a tomato theme park called Tomatotopia with Tori as part of it.
It's enough to change Yuma's mood and he gets Tombo to agree to a duel. When duel preparations are complete, as a bonus, Tombo proposes the Basket Rule, where players must devour a vegetable before attacking. Yuma protests but Nistro and Dextra arrive to approve of the rule and leave. Tombo takes the first turn and draws before activating Tomato Paradise, a Field Spell that Special Summons a Tomato Token whenever he summons a Plant-Type monster. Next he plays Tomatoknight (1100) in Attack Mode and gets a Tomato Token (0000) in Attack Mode. Furthermore, he activates Tomatapult, letting him Tribute a Tomato monster and deal Yuma 400 damage. With that done, he uses Tomatapult's effect to tribute the token and leave Yuma down to 3600, not to mention a mess.
Yuma draws and plays Achacha Archer (1200) in Attack Mode, triggering its effect to deal Tombo 500 damage, leaving him down to 3500 LPs. However, Yuma can't attack since he's not a fan of the Basket Rule but picks anyway and gets an Eggmato, a hybrid of an eggplant and a tomato. Regardless, Yuma sets 1 card to end his turn. It's not a time for Yuma to get picky but Tombo draws and summons Tomato in Tomato (1000) in Attack Mode. Due to TiT's effect, Tombo plays another Tomato in Tomato and gets 2 Tomato Tokens by TP's effect. Then he uses Tough Tomato to give his monsters 500 ATK this turn, giving the Tokens 500 ATK, the TiTs 1500 ATK and the TK 1600 ATK.
Since he's not afraid to pick, he gets a pepper and attacks, leaving Yuma down to 1700 LPs but prompting Yuma to activate Heartfelt Appeal to gain control of TiT since it's DEF is highest. Tombo applauds this but still has Tomatapult and uses it twice, leaving Yuma down to 900 LPs and a mess once more. Yuma draws and tributes his acquired TiT for Chachaka Archer (1200) in Attack Mode. Next, he uses its effect to destroy Tomatapult. Then he powers it up with Blustering Winds, raising its ATK by 1000 to 2200. However, Astral gets him to realize that he has to attack next and while he picks out a cucumber-tomato hybrid, he won't eat it and Tombo realizes that Yuma hates tomatoes. (I do too so if I were facing Tombo, I'd run Exodia.)
As a result, Yuma sets 1 card to end his turn. Tombo is pissed off, especially when he's told about tomatoes being a fruit (and I'd have thought someone like Tombo would've known that) and draws. Then he plays another Tomato in Tomato and gets a Tomato Token by TP's effect.  Next he uses the TiTs and TK as Xyz Material for Tomato King (1600) in Attack Mode. Now he uses Tomato King's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself to double its ATK to 3200 until his next turn. His attack takes out CA but Yuma's score only drops to 400 as Yuma activated Transaction Summon to reduce the damage by 500 and let him play Gagaga Girl (1000) in Attack Mode.
However, due to TS' other effect, Tombo's monsters can't be destroyed in battle for the next two turns. Tombo can afford to wait and ends his turn so Yuma draws and summons Gagaga Magician (1500) in Attack Mode. Next, he uses GM's effect to make it Level 3. Yuma focuses his energy on his next pull from the basket and gets what Tombo calls a Tomarrot. Yuma still won't eat it until Tori convinces him of what'll happen once Tombo wins the World Duel Carnival. To everyone's surprise, Yuma takes a bite and enjoys it. Next he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Melomelody the Brass Djin (1400) in Attack Mode. Since GG and GM were both Xyz Material, Yuma makes Tomato Knight's ATK 0.
His attack doesn't destroy TK due to TS' other effect but leaves Tombo down to 2100 LPs. Since Tombo has an Xyz Monster, Yuma uses Melomelody's effect twice detach 2 Xyz Mati to attack twice more, winning Yuma the duel. (The real card can only use its effect once per turn.) After a tense few seconds, Tombo comes to and Yuma helps him up before giving him a hug goodbye. Before he leaves, Tombo gives Yuma his next Heart Piece. He'll win the Duel Carnival even if he has to eat his way through and Astral notes how equally complicated the human mind and stomach are.
