Episode 2: Welcome to Duel Academy
On a helicopter, the pilot points out their new "home away from home". Next stop, the academy island. Chancellor Sheppard welcomes the students, saying they should go to their assigned dorms, which should be quite comfortable, depending on their rank. Jaden finds out he and Syrus are in the Slifer Red Dorm and questions Bastion if he's in with them. Bastion replies no then requests for Jaden not to mention that he just figured it out now. "Ever think I'm color blind?" asked Jaden. Bastion says he didn't and asks Jaden if he's color blind. Jaden says no and tells him to see him at the dorms. Bastion doubts it telling them that their dorm is over there, pointing behind them. Jaden and Syrus enter their room. Syrus says it's kinda small but Jaden tells Syrus he's a small guy. Jaden says he likes it and that it'll make a "sweet pad" for their first year here. Syrus then asks Jaden if they were like a pharaoh and a guardian Seto. Jaden says its lame. He then decides its time to work on the dorm.
"Hey, those were closed for a reason!" a voice yells. Syrus and Jaden didn't see him up there. Can they see him now? Syrus and Jaden freak out and grab one another. "Will ya stop your screamin'?" the person asks. He then asks them why they're in his room. Jaden and Syrus introduce themselves. They're new alright so he's going to tell them how things work here. There are three dorms. Obelisk Blue, Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red. He says Obelisk Blue is the highest, Ra is second and then there's them, the "red wonders" as in I wonder how flunkies like us got this far. The person tells them they are "duelin' duds" and says he's Chumley. Outside their dorm, Syrus is still depressed and Jaden says red is a sweet color, which as he says is where red hot comes from. Syrus agrees and becomes engulfed in flames saying that red is for red hot, dangerous, scorching, hot! He's like a furnace, or a large bowl of salsa dip.  Jaden races off. Syrus says he's not a dip and tells him to wait up. Jaden senses a duel. Syrus asks him if he has some kind of sixth sense. He and Jaden enter a room, which two of the students already in there tell them it's for Obelisk Blues only. One of them mentions that "the duelist who beat Dr. Crowler" is here. The other tells Jaden to show Chazz the proper respects since he was number one at prep school. He's going to be the next King of Games. "Impossible," Jaden says. It's impossible because that's exactly what he's going to be. Chazz says maybe Jaden's right, after all he did beat Crowler... or was it luck? He wants to find out right now. Jaden agrees.
A girl shows up, another Obelisk Blue, who Chazz says is Alexis and asks her if she wants to watch him defeat Jaden in a duel but Alexis is here to remind Chazz of the Obelisk Blue welcome dinner that he's late to. She then says that the Slifer Red welcome dinner's going to start as well. Jaden asks Alexis her name and she does the same for Jaden. Jaden and Syrus race off. At the Slifer Red dorm, all Slifer Red students stare in surprise at their food. Check out their headmaster, it's a cat! Suddenly, a man enters telling them he is Professor Banner. He wants everyone to tell something about themselves but Jaden starts eating and after seeing this Banner lets them just eat.  After dinner, Jaden and Syrus return to their dorms, where Jaden says Banner cooks well. Syrus adds that he seems like a nice guy. Jaden gets a message on his "receiver". It's Chazz telling him it's on at midnight and the winner gets the loser's best card. The duel starts and Chazz draws (he has Mefist the Infernal General, Chthonian Polymer, Reborn Zombie, Helpoemer, Call of the Haunted and Pandemonium Watchbear) He plays
Reborn Zombie (1600) in Defense Mode and one card face down. Jaden draws and plays Polymerization, fusing Avian and Burstinatrix for Elemental Hero Flame Wingman (2100) in Attack Mode. Flame Wingman gets redesigned for US when shown at around 12:05 into the episode. Chazz activates his Chthonian Polymer Trap Card by tributing his Reborn Zombie to take Wingman. He then hopes Jaden plays another Monster, which he does, Elemental Hero Clayman (2000) in Defense Mode, who also gets a redesign for US when summoned at 13:31 into the episode although its quite difficult to see. Chazz draws and summons Chthonian Soldier (1200) in Attack Mode then attacks with Flame Wingman, destroying Clayman and reducing Jaden's Life Points to 3200 by Wingman's effect and then directly with Chthonian Soldier, putting Jaden's score at 2000. Jaden laughs, but Chazz thinks he's crying.
Jaden says it's too fun and draws, summoning
Elemental Hero Sparkman (1600) in Attack Mode and takes out CT, leaving Chazz with 3600 and Jaden himself at 1600 with CT's effect. Jaden sets 1 card to end his turn and like the others, Sparkman gets a redesign when shown at 15:35 into the episode. Chazz draws and attacks Sparkman but Jaden reveals Mirror Gate, a Trap Card that permanently swaps the battling Monsters' positions, so Jaden gets back Flame Wingman and attacks, destroying him and putting Chazz's score at 1800. (The real card, which isn't out in the US right now, returns the Monsters at the end of the turn.) Chazz draws and plays Chthonian Blast, which for whatever reason is shown at 16:44 into the episode as a Spell Card. Chazz  uses CB's effect to destroy Flame Wingman and put Jaden's score at 550. Then, he uses Call of the Haunted, allowing him to revive a Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Mode. He chooses Chthonian Soldier then tributes him for Mefist the Infernal General (1800) in Attack Mode. Alexis warns Chazz and Jaden that people are coming, saying that if they're found here's they're going to get in trouble. Security arrives to an empty arena. Back outside the dorm, Jaden says he knows how the duel would've ended for his card was Monster Reborn. Alexis says it's going to be an interesting year.
