Episode 37: Digging Deeper (1)

At her house, Carly is sleeping and doesn't awaken to the phone ringing or her boss yelling at her again. When she awakens, she recalls a conversation she had with Jack about the big scoop. She can't tell Jack that the story is only part of what she needs anymore! She breaks down into near tears then becomes more firm as she just needs to figure out the mystery of the Crimson Dragon. At their lair, one member, whom we learn is Roman, asks Kalin about the duel but Kalin says to focus on what he did do, leave Yusei doubting himself as a duelist. We find Yusei outside as Rally and Nervin arrive, ready to help if parts are needed but Yusei isn't so sure he can defeat the Dark Signers, recalling the final moments before his last duel was cut short.

Elsewhere, Jack is finishing up a lap and is pleased with the upgrades made to his Duel Runner. Mina believes a great machine deserves a great name and Jack calls his runner Phoenix Whirlwind. Meanwhile, Carly is consulting with someone, whom has photos of the marks but no idea what they mean. He also has info on the Arcadia Movement and is willing to trade that for the original Dark Magician Girl action figure. However, when Carly views the info, there's nothing there until she gets to Misty. Tanner and Yanagi find themselves locked up in a room, unable to determine why they're in there or what it'll mean for their future but Tanner should've known the Arcadia Movement would do something like this.

At the Arcadia Movement HQ, Luna gazes at Leo from the window when Akiza arrives, attempting to shed light on what's been going on. When it doesn't help, Luna calls on Ancient Fairy Dragon, whom says to find Regulus but that only brings up more questions than it answers. Inside a hotel, Carly wants to see Misty but the attendant has doubts until Misty appears and takes Carly to a more private room. With tea set on the table, Carly explains her situation but Misty is well aware of what Carly is up to and reveals that her brother was taken from her by the Arcadia Movement. Carly whips up a disguise to see if the story is true and arrives at Sayer's office just as Sayer and Akiza are heading out after a brief discussion. She can't resist walking inside and snooping around and finds a secret room and info on the missing people.

Before she can read further, Sayer appears to follow on a hunch and suggests a duel for freedom.

Carly agrees but she should've run away as Sayer draws and plays Telekinetic Shocker (1700) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 16:51 into the US episode, the card shows it as a DARK monster instead of an EARTH monster! TS' effect (rather game rules) prevent an attack on the first turn so Sayer ends his turn. Carly draws, not happy with the result but realizes how much sense the fortune is in her situation and plays Fortune Fairy Swee (0000) in Attack Mode. Next she uses Unacceptable Result to Special Summon Fortune Fairy Chee (0000) in Attack Mode. Then she uses a Spell Card (Luck Loan but they don't tell you that) to Special Summon Fortune Fairy Hu (0000) in Attack Mode and Sayer isn't worried at all so Carly also activates Miracle Stone, giving each of her Fortune Fairies 1000 ATK for each Fortune Fairy on her field, making each of their ATKs 3000 but preventing them from attacking the turn they were Summoned so she ends her turn.

Sayer draws and plays Psychic Snail (1900) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Emergency Teleport, letting him Special Summon a Level 3 or less Psychic-Type monster from his hand or Deck and chooses Psychic Commander (1400) in Attack Mode. Then he uses Psychokinesis to take 1000 damage and destroy MS, leaving his score down to 3000 and the the Fortune Fairies' ATKs at normal. His attacks win him the duel and send Carly to her potential doom as she recalls what Misty told her earlier.
