Episode 31: The Reunion Duel

At the site where Crow is waiting, Yusei steps off his Duel Runner and reveals that he and Crow are friends. They take their Duel Runners out for a spin and catch up on news. At the hospital, Jack sees from a magazine that his loss made him yesterday's news. Meanwhile, Carly has let her boss know that she's with Jack, the same person other reporters are looking for and must get an interview with Jack or that's it for her career. She goes to his room and plans to play it casual but finds him nowhere to be seen as he's snuck out the window and is on the streets. Underground, Yusei and Crow arrive to find Nervin and crew fine and happy to see them.

However, the happiness is short-lived as Sector Security is asking for Crow and gets him to come out. Yusei decides to join in and gets involved in a tag duel. Jack meanwhile finds himself at a snag in the Metro Rail station as he's asked for a Metro Rail pass, which is something he doesn't have. Carly steps in and pulls Jack away, protesting that the press is looking for him but Jack doesn't want to play her game until she tries to tell the world that Jack is with her. Jack dresses up but regrets doing it and doesn't do fun either so Carly decides to do what friends would do with Trudge and Mina lurking feet away. Back at the duel, Security Guard 1 draws and plays Gate Blocker (2000) in Defense Mode. Then, for a bit of variety, he tributes it for Gate Blocker 2 (3000) in Defense Mode. Lastly, he sets 3 cards to end his turn. Crow draws and SSG1 activates Full Throttle to give himself another Speed Counter and GB2 leaves Crow without any SCs. Furthermore, he activates Speed Edge to deal Crow damage equal to their difference in SCs times 300, leaving Crow to take 600 damage this turn, bringing his and Yuseis' score down to 3400.

Crow is unphased and summons Blackwing - Bora the Spear (1700) in Attack Mode, then Special Summons Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind (1300) in Attack Mode by its first effect. Then he uses GtW's second effect to halve GB2's DEF to 1500.  However, SSG1 activates Defender's Mind to put all his own monsters to Defense Mode and double their DEF, putting GB2 back to 3000. Nevertheless, Crow uses his two Blackwings as Synchro Material for Blackwing Armor Master (2500) in Attack Mode. His attack doesn't destroy GB2, nor deal himself damage thanks to BAM's effect but due to DM's effect, GB2's DEF doubles to 6000. SSG2 draws and uses SE's effect to deal Crow 1200 damage since their SC difference is 4, bringing he and Crow down to 2200 LPs. Next he plays Gate Defender (2000) in Defense Mode to end his turn.

Yusei recalls meeting it before (except you faced Gate Blocker not Gate Defender) and recalls that it can negate an attack once per turn. On a rollercoaster, Carly, Jack, Mina and Trudge are all along for the ride with only Jack not even flinching on any of the rides. Jack is done with Carly and accepts her favor as repayment but before he can fully walk away, a boy appears and still believes in Jack despite the loss. Jack hangs around a lake and knows that the boy's friends are right while Carly goes to find the thing to cheer him up. He knows what to do and that's to find Yusei. Carly has bought two drinks and as she talks with Angela, she spots Jack and gives him the signal to walk away. She hands Angela the drinks before darting off, figuring that Jack was going to the tall building visible from the hospital room.

At the duel, Yusei draws, taking damage by SE's effect since the difference is 6, bringing his and Crows' score down to 400. Next Yusei plays Turbo Synchron (100) in Attack Mode and Crow uses Level Retuner to make BAM Level 5. Then he uses TS and BAM as Synchro Material for Turbo Warrior (2500) in Attack Mode, not yet enough to take down GD so Crow adds Ebon Arrow to lower TW's ATK by 500 to 2000 but let it inflict the difference as battle damage and deal SSG and 2 damage equal to the monster's original DEF. Since BAM attacked GB2 earlier, GB2 got a Wedge Counter and lost all its ATK and DEF, letting TW attack and destroy it to leave SSG1 and SSG2 down to 2000, then 0 by EA's effect.

As Yusei and Crow ride along, Crow brings up Jack's disappearance and we find Jack right where Carly said he'd be with Trudge and Mina not far behind. Carly appears and gets Jack to share his story of how he got here. Carly's words are enough to bring Jack out of hiding and reveal himself. She doesn't want to write about Jack anymore as there would only be accusations towards him and races to catch up as Jack heads out.
