Episode 109: Hanging with Axel (2)

At the duel, Hassleberry demands Syrus to be freed but Axel's reminder of having the trigger changes his mind. Jaden plays Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab (0500) in Attack Mode and Axel recognizes that move with Jesse and he wasn't impressed then since they have low ATK and lame effects. FS' ATK rises to 1300 by its effect. He wouldn't attack with them would he? He does but Axel activates Firewall, letting him remove from play a Pyro-Type monster to negate the attack and he uses it on both of Jaden's attacks.

Axel thinks that Viper will be thrilled due to his strategy but he has to make Jaden keep attacking so he pays 500 LPs to keep Firewall out, leaving his score at 3000. Next he activates Fire Soul (Soul of Fire in the TCG) letting Jaden draw 1 card but letting himself remove from play a Pyro-Type monster and deal Jaden damage equal to half its ATK. He selects Infernal Flame Emperor with 2700 ATK, leaving Jaden with 2650. He sets 2 cards face down, figuring that Jaden will tribute his monsters for Neos, and ends his turn. Hassleberry and Jesse see this as an opportunity to save Syrus and sneak away.

Jaden plays Fake Hero to Special Summon Elemental Hero Neos (2500) in Attack Mode, then contact fuses him with Flare Scarab for Elemental Hero Flare Neos (2500) in Attack Mode, whose ATK rises to 4500 with 5 Spells and Traps on the field. He attacks directly but Axel activates Burial from a Different Dimension letting him return 3 removed from play monsters back to the Grave and he removes from play 2 of them for Firewall's effect.

However, Jaden uses Contact Out to trade Flare Neos for Neos and Flare Scarab in Attack Mode and he attacks with them but Axel can only negate Neos' ATK so he takes Flare Scarab's 1700 ATK as damage, leaving him with 1300. (Infernal Flame Emperor must've been one of the cards returned to the Grave with Burial from a Different Dimension's effect, though we never see it.) Axel needs help so he calls on what his father told him in the past, then decides to duel by respecting his opponent, much to Viper's disappointment.

He pays for Firewall, leaving him with 800. Next he plays Blasting Vain to destroy one of his face down cards, then draw 2 cards. Then he draws 1 more card since his face down card was Fire Trap. Next he trades BA for Tri-Blaze Accelerator and uses its effect to send Volcanic Scattershot (which has 500 ATK in the CG, 600 here), then two more from his Deck to the Grave by TBA's effect, destroying Jaden's monsters and dealing him 2000 damage (500 from TBA, the rest from the 3x Scattershots) leaving Jaden with 650. Meanwhile, Syrus' rope breaks but Jesse catches it and Hassleberry says Syrus is okay (Easy for you to say, Hassleberry, you're the one trying to get both of them up).

Jaden starts laughing as Jesse figures this is what happens when you hang out with Jaden. Axel sets 2 cards to end his turn. Jaden plays Elemental Hero Wildheart (1500) in Attack Mode and attacks but Axel activates Wild Fire to bring out a Wild Fire Token after destroying all monsters on the field and TBA along with paying 500 LPs, leaving him with 300. Jaden activates Elemental Mirage to bring back Wildheart and attacks.

Axel thinks that he could win this duel by activating his Trap Card, then remembers his pact with Viper and chooses not to and ends up losing the duel. Their Bio-Bands activate, causing both duelists to collapse. At the hospital, Jesse explains what happened but the story doesn't add up to Ms Fontane. She says he must have some pre-existing condition. Jaden awakens, asking why everyone is staring at him. Syrus says he'll never leave Jaden's side again and decides to quit Obelisk Blue to start watching Jaden 24/7. Jaden then sleeps as we are directed back to Viper's lava lamp so to speak.
