Episode 89: The Darkness Within

At DA, Jaden and Hassleberry ask for more food, saying they're solders with duels today and can't duel on empty stomachs. Dorothy warns they'll explode if they eat anymore. Chazz arrives, questioning the contents of what they call lunch at Slifer Red. Chazz sees Syrus and tries to get his attention but to no avail. Jaden succeeds and Syrus mentions that his brother got off the ferry earlier. Meanwhile, Atticus speeds towards the shore as his fans scream with delight. He gets into his regular DA outfit as his fans stampede through. Then, he remembers a conversation he had with Sheppard, along with other memories.

Zane gives a brief glance before he and Atticus go their separate ways. In literally the middle of nowhere, Zane wonders why Atticus dragged him out and Atticus explains that he's going to battle Zane with the same evil that once possessed him. Zane tells Atticus he couldn't be more wrong about him being out of control and he'll find out soon. Atticus starts with Red-Eyes Black Chick (Red-Eyes B. Chick in the CG) (800) in Attack Mode.

Then he tributes it using REBC's effect for Red-Eyes Black Dragon (Red-Eyes B. Dragon in the TCG) (2400) in Attack Mode. Then he uses Inferno Fire Blast, preventing REBD from attacking but dealing Zane damage equal to its ATK, leaving him with 1600. He sets 1 card to end his turn. Zane is impressed with Atticus' move and asks if Atticus could've done it without Nightshroud's help. Atticus says Nightshroud is gone and he won't be controlled.

Zane plays Cyberdark Horn (0800) in Attack Mode and uses its effect, letting him take a Level 4 or lower monster and equip it to CH. (The real card can only equip a Level 3 or lower Dragon-Type monster from your Graveyard) He chooses REBC, giving it a total of 1600 ATK and CH has Piercing Damage too. Next he plays Megamorph, doubling CH's original ATK to 2400. Plus, due to CH's other effect, if it attacks and would be destroyed by battle, Zane can send REBC to the Grave and prevent it from being destroyed. He attacks but Atticus activates

Negate Attack. Zane sets 1 card to end his turn.

Atticus draws, Nightshroud whispers to Atticus as Atticus tributes REBD for Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode. Elsewhere, Jaden wins his duel and sees REDD. Syrus recognizes it from before. They rush over as Atticus explains his monster gets 300 ATK for REBD in his Grave for a total of 2700 ATK. He attacks, but doesn't destroy CH, leaving Zane with 1300 LPs as Zane explains he used CH's last effect to keep CH on the field. REDD gets another 300 ATK since REBC went to his Grave for a total of 3000 ATK.

Atticus then plays Super Rejuvenation, letting him draw 1 card for every Dragon-Type monster tributed or discarded. Nightshroud snickers. Zane draws and switches CH to Defense Mode, then plays Cyberdark Edge (0800) in Attack Mode and uses its effect on REBC, raising its ATK to 1600. Next he uses its other effect, letting it attack directly by halving its ATK, leaving Atticus with 3200. He sets 1 card to end his turn. Atticus plays Dragon Heart, giving REDD 1000 ATK by sending 3 Dragon-Type monsters from his deck to his Grave and since another 3 Dragons are in Atticus' Grave, REDD gets 900 more ATK for a total of 4600.

He strains to control Nightshroud's power but figures it might be the only way to get through to Zane. He attacks but Zane again uses CE's effect and activates Power Wall to send 30 cards from his deck to his Grave and decrease the damage by 100 per card sent, cancelling out the 3000 damage he would've taken. Nightshroud takes over, then draws, activating Dragonfire (Dragon's Gunfire in the TCG), destroying a monster Zane has with 800 DEF or less and chooses REBC, destroying it and raisng REDD's ATK by another 300 to 4900 (but they don't show you how it got there). REDD's ATK drops to 3900 (apparently Dragon Heart's effect must last only 1 turn).

Zane uses Call of the Haunted to revive Cyberdark Edge. Next he plays Cyberdark Keel (0800) in Attack Mode and uses Poly to send his 3 monsters to his Grave for Cyberdark Dragon (1000) in Attack Mode, whose effect lets Zane equip it with any monster in the Graveyard. (The real card can only equip itself with a Dragon-Type monster from your Graveyard.) He chooses REBD, lowering REDD's ATK to 3600 and raising CD's ATK to 3400, not yet enough ATK to defeat REDD but Zane mentions that for every card in his Grave, CD gets 100 ATK.

(The real card only gets 100 ATK per Monster Card in your Grave.) He sent 37 cards to his Grave so his monster gets 3700 more ATK for a total of 7100. He attacks, destroying REDD, and freeing Atticus from Nightshroud, winning the duel. Atticus offers his metal to Zane for winning it but Zane says all that matters is victory and walks away. Syrus thinks he's going to duel Zane and win!
