Episode 83: Schooling the Master

At Duel Academy, Syrus remembers the news of Zane being #1 again when Jaden shows, telling that Zane's duel is going to start and they were going to watch it on satellite. Syrus isn't interested, saying that Zane hasn't been himself lately. Jaden adds that Zane has become way more popular. He boasts about the beef jerky and Syrus decides to come. At the dueling arena, Zane finishes off his latest opponent.

The anchors high above see that the opponent needs medical attention and can't believe Zane is just walking away. Inside a limozine, Mr. Shroud congratulates Zane on another victory and reminds him that he'll give Zane what he wants. Zane says he already has what he wants and boots Shroud out of the limo. Shroud says Zane will regret it. He reads a letter, saying to meet him at the top. He arrives at the top, partially out of breath but enters the building that's there. He finds Chancellor Sheppard waiting for him and wants to know if Sheppard brought him here to lecture him. Sheppard says he wasn't.

The duel begins with Sheppard setting 2 cards face down, ending his turn. Zane plays Future Fusion to send his 3 Cyber Dragons to the Grave for Cyber End Dragon (4000) in Attack Mode. (The real Future Fusion forces its controller to wait 2 Standby Phases before summoning the Fusion Monster). Luckily for Sheppard, it can't attack (it can in the CG). Sheppard reminds Zane that he gave him the card and begins his story of Zane's past. Zane says it's sounding like a lecture, which he doesn't have time for. Sheppard realizes that Zane knows about the Deck of the Underworld, which Zane wants to claim when he wins. Sheppard activates Cyber Shadow Gardna, which becomes a copy of an opponent's monster.

(The real card only becomes a monster when your opponent attacks) Zane uses De-Fusion to return Cyber End for 3 Cyber Dragons (2100 x3) in Attack Mode and CSG then becomes 1 Cyber Dragon. (The real card doesn't change to another monster) He uses 1 Cyber Dragon to destroy CSG. Zane finds it amusing that he can finally school his teacher but Sheppard says Zane become more gullible and activates Byroad Sacrifice, letting him play Cyber Ogre (1900) in Attack Mode. Zane attacks it with another Cyber Dragon but Sheppard discards another Cyber Ogre to give his CO on the field Cyber Dragon's ATK and reduces Battle Damage to 0 (the real card only gives the Cyber Ogre 2000 ATK and doesn't negate Battle Damage.) CO's ATK rises to 4000. Zane is impressed and sets 1 card to end his turn.

Sheppard draws but Zane activates Attack Reflector Unit to tribute 1 Cyber Dragon for Cyber Barrier Dragon (0800) in Attack Mode. Sheppard uses Monster Reincarnation to discard 1 card and get a monster back, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Zane says that'll be Sheppard's last move and plays Proto-Cyber Dragon (1100) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Photon Generator Unit to tribute his Cyber Dragon and Proto-Cyber since it's a Cyber Dragon while face up on the field for Cyber Laser Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode. Sheppard activates Scrap Fusion, letting him fuse Zane's 3 Cyber Dragons in the Grave for Cyber End Dragon in Attack Mode.

Zane sets 1 card to end his turn. Sheppard plays Pot of Greed for 2 cards, then plays Cyber Esper (1200) in Attack Mode. He attacks with Cyber Esper. Oops, he briefly calls it Cyber Ester! CBD's effect negates the attack so Sheppard attacks Laser Dragon with Cyber End, destroying CLD and leaving Zane with 2400, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Zane draws as Sheppard says his Cyber Esper forces Zane to reveal every card he draws. Zane uses Pot of Greed, then Sheppard thinks out Zane's strategy. Oops! The left card in the US is Ruthless Denial not Creature Swap at 14:30 into the episode!

Zane uses Lost Pride to send Creature Swap to his Grave and add Scrap Fusion from Sheppard's Grave to his own hand. Then he uses Ruthless Denial, forcing him to tribute CBD and have Sheppard send his second Cyber Ogre to the Grave. Next he mentions Lost Pride costs 1000 LPs to use so his score drops to 1400. Then he uses Scrap Fusion to bring out Sheppard's Cyber Ogre 2 (2600) in Attack Mode. CO2's effect gives it half of CED's for a total of 4600, then Zane uses Limiter Removal to double Cyber Ogre 2's ATK to 9200.

He attacks, destroying CED and winning the duel as well as uncovering the Deck of the Underworld. Zane walks away as Sheppard reveals that he was traveling to different schools in order to host the ultimate tournament and hands Zane a metal, saying it's the ticket to entering. Zane says contests aren't his thing but after another word from Sheppard, he says he'll think about it and walks away. Sheppard thinks he hasn't given up on Zane. If he can't bring him back to normal, maybe his friends can. At DA, Syrus wonders what happened to Zane.
