Episode 55: A Hassleberry Hounding

Inside a forest, Jaden can't believe Crowler forced him to lug around 40 duel disks for skipping a lecture. Syrus knows why and says that he has heard rumors about some guy who hangs out at the west river and supposedly takes your duel disk if he wins. He confesses to Jaden that he dueled and lost to this guy. Jaden decides to take the long way home and confronts the guy, who states his name as Hassleberry, code name Tyranno. He asks Jaden if he's scared but Jaden obviously isn't and wants to duel.

Hassleberry says that before they duel, he must make his introduction speech. After his flunkies sing their lame song, they recognize Syrus from yesterday. Jaden just wants to duel but Hassleberry wants to first explain the rules, which he states are that if Jaden loses, he gives up the duel disks he's carrying and Jaden adds that if he wins, he gets the duel disks Hassleberry stole. Syrus gets all angry about the crew insulting Jaden and order him to calm Syrus down or they will. One of them says to just focus on the prize. Hassleberry accepts the conditions and the duel starts.

With the back-to-back arguments between Syrus and Hassleberry's crew out of the way, Jaden starts with Elemental Hero Wildheart (1600) in Defense Mode and ends his turn. Wildheart's image has been slightly modified for US at 5:09 into the episode.Hassleberry draws and plays Gilasaurus (1400) in Attack Mode, explaining that Gilasaurus was a Special Summon and tributes it for Dark Driceratops (2400) in Attack Mode. He attacks and destroys Wildheart, leaving Jaden with 3200. (Driceratops has an effect to deal Piercing Damage, which means dealing the difference between his ATK and a defending monster's DEF, which is why Jaden took damage, although as usual, it's not explained.)

Jaden draws, telling the lieutenant it's his turn. He plays Monster Reincarnation to retrieve Wildheart by discarding Necroshade. Then with Necroshade's effect, he summons Elemental Hero Bladedge (2600) in Attack Mode and destroys Dark Driceratops with him, leaving Hassleberry with 3800. After Hassleberry's story about how he became a Ra Yellow, Hassleberry draws and plays Jurassic World, giving Dino and Winged-Beast monsters 300 ATK and DEF and those monsters are unaffected by the opponent's Trap Cards. Plus if attacked while in Attack Mode, they can change to Defense Mode (The real card just gives Dino-Type monsters 300 ATK and DEF.)

He plays Archeonys (0300) in Attack Mode, which can attack directly and does so, leaving Jaden with 2600. He ends his turn by setting 1 card face down. Jaden plays Wildheart in Attack Mode and attacks with Bladedge but Hassleberry activates Amber Pitfall, which permanently switches Bladedge to Defense Mode. Jaden attacks with Wildheart, not destroying it and brings his own LPs to 3000. He sets 1 card to end his turn. Hassleberry uses Earthquake, changing all face up monsters to Defense Mode. Then he uses Modified Ultra Evolution (rather New Ultra Evolution), tributing his Archeonys for Dark Tyranno (2900) in Attack Mode.

(They actually call it "Black Tyranno" but given how similar both cards are, it's easy to mix them up. Dark Tyranno has a different artwork and effect, which is how you tell the difference.) He explains that BT can attack directly and does so. (A similar card was released with the same name but required the opponent to have nothing on the field but Defense Position monsters.) Jaden's down to 100, explaining that he activated Insurance, which returned a card to his hand and if the returned card was Insurance, he gained 500 LPs, which it was because he had two.

Jaden plays Pot of Greed, then Skyscraper, destroying JW and lowering BT's ATK to 2600. Next he uses Poly to summon Elemental Hero Wild Wingman (1900) in Attack Mode and uses his effect, which by discarding 1 car destroys Amber Pitfall. He switches Bladedge to Attack Mode Next, with Skyscraper's effect, WW gets 1000 ATK to 2900. (" ") He attacks and destroys BT, leaving Hassleberry with 3500. Then he attacks directly with Bladedge, dropping Hassleberry's score to 900.

Hassleberry says he's still in it but Jaden says he's not done and uses De-Fusion to summon Elemental Hero Avian (1000) and Wildheart in Attack Mode. He wins the duel by direct attacking with Avian.  Later, Hassleberry starts taking out his belongings as Jaden and Syrus question why he's doing this when they already have freeloaders. Hassleberry says his mind is made up and he wants to take a break from Troop Tyranno. He offers to shake hands with Jaden, who tells him to call him simply Jaden and he obeys.
