Episode 19: The King of Copycats (2)

At the site of the duel, the score stands at Jaden with 1300 and Dimitri/Yami with 4000. Syrus says Jaden's in deep trouble and Bastion agrees, saying that he's up against Yugi's deck, full LPs and Dark Magician of Chaos. Jaden plays Winged Kuriboh (0200) in Defense Mode and sets a card to end his turn. Dimitri/Yami greets his old friend, then says there's nothing quite like the original and summons Kuriboh (0300) in Attack Mode.

He attacks Burstinatrix with DMoC but Jaden activates Super Junior Confrontation, (which has been given a slight redesign for US as shown at 3:13 into the episode) to force the weakest monsters to battle so WK is destroyed. Dimitri/Yami sets a card and ends his turn. Jaden uses Pot of Greed, giving him 2 cards. Next he plays Elemental Hero Bubbleman (0800) in Attack Mode. Then he plays Skyscraper, which also gets a redesign for US as shown at 4:08 into the episode although in the Japanese it's hard to see.

Thanks to its effect, attacking Elemental Heroes get 1000 ATK when the battle a stronger monster. Next he plays Bubble Blaster, giving Bubbleman 800 ATK and if he would be attacked, BB is destroyed instead. He attacks with Bubbleman on Kuriboh but Dimitri/Yami activates Multiply, which tributes Kuriboh for Kuriboh Tokens (200) in Defense Mode in all open Monster Card Zone he has. Jaden sets a card and ends his turn. Dimitri/Yami plays Card of Sanctity, forcing both of them to draw until they both hold 6 cards. (The real card forces you to remove all cards you control and in your hand from play, then draw cards until your hand holds 2 cards.) CoS has been slightly redesigned for US as shown at 5:40 into the episode, although the dubbed image is cut-off.

He drew Watapon and by its effect, if he drew it by Monster, Spell, or Trap effect, he can summon it, which he does (200) in Defense Mode, then tributes it for Dark Magician Girl (2000) in Attack Mode. Jaden says she's even cuter in person and Dimitri/Yami says she has both beauty and brawn for she gains 300 ATK for every Dark Magician in his Graveyard, putting her ATK at 2300. He attacks Bubbleman with DMoC, destroying Bubble Blaster, then with Dark Magician Girl, destroying him and dropping Jaden's score to 800. (In the real game, Skyscraper only gives the boost during the Damage Step, so Jaden would've been down to 100 LPs.)

Jaden draws and plays Elemental Hero Avian (1000) in Attack Mode, then uses Poly for Elemental Hero Flame Wingman (2100) in Attack Mode. Next he uses The Warrior Returning Alive, letting him retrieve a past warrior monster, like Elemental Hero Sparkman, which he summons (1600) in Attack Mode and with Skyscraper still out, FW gets 1000 ATK, for 3100. He attacks and destroys DMoC with FW, putting Dimitri/Yami's score to 3700.

Then, Jaden uses FW's super power, dealing Dimitri/Yami damage equal to the ATK of his destroyed monster, leaving him with 900. He's beating Yugi's deck! Bastion thinks it's remarkable that Jaden is staying competitive. Jaden destroys a Kuriboh Token with Sparkman. (Okay that was dumb for he could've destroyed DMG and dealt another 300 damage to Dimitri/Yami.) Anyway, he then sets a card and uses Emergency Provisions, letting him send his face down card to the Grave and get back 1000 LPs, raising his score to 1800.

Next turn, he'll have beaten the King of Games' deck. Dimitri/Yami says Jaden has nothing and switches DMG to Defense Mode and plays Spider Web, letting him use a Spell Card Jaden played last turn and he sets 2 cards face down. Next, he uses Monster Reincarnation and the effect of EP and sends his 3 cards to his Grave, putting his score to 3900. Using MR, he takes back Kuriboh. Jaden attacks and destroys DMG with FW and by FW's effect, Dimitri/Yami loses 2000 LPs. Oops! At 10:13 into the episode, the graphic shows in both versions that Dimitri/Yami's LPs stop at 1600 when they should stop at 1900 since he just took 2000 damage after being at 3900.

Good thing Dimitri/Yami added his points last turn. Yeah, well it's a good thing Jaden has a couple more attacks left as he uses De-Fusion to return FW to the deck and bring back Avian and Burstinatrix (0800) in Defense Mode. He's impressing Bastion more and more each turn! He attacks and destroys the Kuriboh Tokens with Avian and Burstinatrix. He direct attacks with Sparkman but Dimitri/Yami discards Kuriboh, negating the damage. Dimitri/Yami removes a DARK monster and a LIGHT monster from play. "Is it a summoning?" Syrus asks. "Of course not!" Chumley replies. They're wrong, there are two rare cards that can be summoned like this. Two rare cards that duelists have scoured the Earth to add them to their collection. In the real game there are three, Chaos Sorcerer being the third.) Some say that no copies of the card still exists.

Dimitri/Yami says he's wrong for he has one right here. He plays Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning (3000) in Attack Mode. "So he really does have it" Jaden says. (Not really since this is probably a substitute for Black Luster Soldier, the card Yugi actually uses.) He attacks and destroys Avian, leaving Jaden's score at 800. Dimitri/Yami explains that if BLS-EotB destroys a monster in battle, he can attack again and does so. "It's over" he says but Jaden says "Not yet" and activates Hero Sprit, which reduces his damage to 0 if an Elemental Hero is destroyed. Dimitri/Yami says that the Heart of the Cards will see to that he finishes Jaden off next turn and ends his turn. Jaden plays Silent Doom letting him revive Avian in Defense Mode. Silent Doom has been completely redesigned for US as shown at around 15:18 into the episode (although the angle and size of card image makes it difficult).

Next he plays Double Spell, which by discarding a Spell Card, he can use a Spell Card from Dimitri/Yami's Graveyard. He takes and uses Poly to bring out Flame Wingman again. He attacks, destroying BLS and putting Dimitri/Yami's score to 1500. Then by the effect of FW, he takes damage equal to BLS, wiping out the rest of his LPs. How could he lose with his, er, Yugi's deck? The answer is obvious, says Zane whilst walking over with Alexis. So what now? Zane tells him that the punishment for stealing is expulsion but after how he used the deck, probably no one will turn him in. He then further says that Dimitri will never truly win or lose unless he puts himself out there with his own deck and strategies.

They put back the deck. The next day, at the exhibit, Jaden says everything's back to normal and shows Chumley his autographed poster of Yugi. Syrus rushes in, saying Dimitri's at it again. They race out to see a copy of Jaden, whom obviously is Dimitri. Dimitri/Jaden tries copying Jaden's lines, although gets them wrong. Oops! At 20:23 into the episode, the pants Dimitri is wearing have changed to black in both versions! Compare with the scene from 20:17 into the episode when they meet. Jaden shows Dimitri how to be like him. Chumley wants a catchphrase but all Syrus wants is out.
