Episode 16: The Duel Giant

Outside, a mysterious duelist has just won a duel and decides to take a card from his opponent as a prize. The card at 0:12 into the episode, which is Familiar Knight, has been slightly redesigned for US. He's lucky a card is all he's losing tonight! At DA, some Obelisk Blue students are talking about the mysterious duelist. Jaden and the gang see them and ask what's going on but the group walks away. "They're talking about the Duel Giant" Syrus says.  Chumley explains that the DG only comes out at midnight, wearing all the uniforms of the OB students he's beaten and he uses the ante rule, when you put up your rarest card and if you lose, he takes it.

Meanwhile, Crowler complains about the Duel Giant's ways, saying he's making a mockery of Obelisks and himself as well as breaking campus rules with the ante rule. Crowler sees Jaden and at first scowls then realizes he could get him out of this predicament. He asks Jaden if he would like no homework for the rest of the year. "He's nice, something's up" Syrus says. (Duh!) Crowler than asks Jaden to identify and duel the person they call the Duel Giant. Jaden accepts, saying that DG's the one that's been whooping Crowler's dorm. Crowler doesn't keep track of such things! Crowler scurries off, muttering to himself that once Jaden reports back to him, the two of them will be expelled! He can't lose! Does Jaden know how to say no? Jaden replies yes.

At the Obelisk Blue dorm, two duelists are dueling. The Ra Yellow Student ponders what to do next: Should he use Earthquake to switch his opponent's monster to Defense Mode or just attack it? He decides to attack but the OB student activates Reinforcements, giving his Marauding Captain 500 more ATK, putting it with 1700. MC counterattacks, destroying Mad Sword Beast and wiping out the RY student's LPs. He was so close! Bastion says it was a classic case of stage fright. He has tremendous skills but cannot handle the pressure of dueling in public. So what are they up to this time? Syrus says they're looking for a giant, the one that's been beating all the Obelisks. Speaking of, Jaden and Syrus see a large person next to the RY student, they claim he might be the Duel Giant.

Bastion says that Ra Yellow student, whom apparently is called Beauregard, is no duelist since he can hardly duel. He came to design games not play them. In the hallway, the two Ra Yellow students are walking when the Obelisk trio again makes fun of Beauregard's size. The Yellow students step aside and the Blue students walk by, throwing more insults at the Yellow students. Jaden calls out to the Yellow students. After racing over, he tells them that they claim Beauregard is the Duel Giant. Beauregard puts on a sad face. "Just what does that mean"?

The other Yellow student asks. Beauregard's face changes to angry. Syrus warns Jaden that they heard what Bastion said. Beauregard's a game designer, not a duelist! It doesn't make sense! "No it doesn't...yet!" Jaden thinks to himself. Later that day, Jaden and the gang hide behind a stone slab until Jaden sees the Duel Giant and darts after him. Along the way, they see another OB student, who says that DG took his best card. Jaden finally catches up with DG. He challenges him to a duel and antes up his Winged Kuriboh card. The card, when shown at 10:00 into the episode, has been slightly altered for US

DG draws and plays Giant Orc (2200) in Attack Mode and ends his turn. Jaden draws and summons Winged Kuriboh (0200) in Defense Mode and also ends his turn. DG attacks, destroying Winged Kuriboh. Jaden hopes it was worth it since Giant Orc is switched to Defense Mode. The graphic showing GO's DEF has only one 0 in the Japanese but more are added for US as shown at 11:10 into the episode.

DG plays Second Goblin (0100) in Attack Mode. He's playing it as a Spell Card but it's really a monster! DG says that once per turn he can be treated as a Spell Card. (The real card must be summoned as a monster first before using his effect.) Jaden plays Poly to summon Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster (2500) in Defense Mode. Next he uses her ability, dealing DG damage equal to half her ATK, putting his score to 3000 and blowing off DG's disguise, revealing himself as Beauregard.

After Jaden explains how he discovered that the DG was Beauregard, the duel resumes and Beauregard draws. He plays Goblin King (0000) in Attack Mode. Ryan, the other Yellow student, explains that by discarding Warrior-Type monsters, he can summon 2 Half Goblins (0500 x2) in Defense Mode. Next he uses Goblin King's effect, giving him 1000 ATK and DEF for each Fiend-Type monster on the field except himself for an ATK of 3000. He attacks with GK, destroying Rampart Blaster, then attacks directly with GO, leaving Jaden with 1800 LPs.

Jaden draws and plays Pot of Greed, giving him two more cards. Next he plays Elemental Hero Sparkman (1600) in Attack Mode. Then he equips Sparkman with Spark Blaster, giving him the ability to change the mode of 3 monsters and he does, so it's destroyed. Next, he uses The Warrior Returning Alive to retrieve Elemental Hero Clayman from his Graveyard, then uses another Poly to summon Elemental Hero Thunder Giant (2400) in Attack Mode.

He uses TG's ability, letting him destroy Giant Orc, then attacks a Half Goblin, destroying it and putting Beauregard's LPs to 1100. Jaden plays De-Fusion, which brings back Sparkman and Elemental Hero Clayman (0800) in Attack Mode. He attacks with Clayman, destroying another HG and putting Beauregard's LPs to 800. Then, he attacks and destroys Goblin King with Sparkman, wiping out the rest of Beauregard's LPs.

Beauregard decides to turn himself in since Ryan is a great duelist and shouldn't get kicked out of DA but Jaden doesn't want to turn either of them in. They race off. Syrus then realizes that since they let him go, they have to start doing homework again, including all the stuff they missed. In Crowler's office, Jaden is quickly doing his make up work and Crowler repeats what Jaden had told him.
