Episode 12: Formula for Success

At a baseball game, the team is rooting for Jaden to make a homerun, which Syrus says for him to keep his eye on the ball. That could be tough, for Jaden may have a hard time seeing it over the rafters! Just then, Bastion Misawa shows up, explaining that he lost track of time. The team asks if he can throw and Bastion Misawa says he can and steps up to the pitching mound. He hopes Jaden is ready for something spicy and throws the ball, which Jaden misses all three times. Now Jaden becomes pitcher and throws three ball throws. Next, Bastion Misawa's at bat. Jaden throws and somehow Bastion Misawa must have hit it because Crowler walks in and as he is mumbling on how no one has beaten Jaden, the ball hits him hard. Jaden rushes over and Crowler pops out from the rubble with the ball on his left eye. Who else could cause such intense pain? Bastion Misawa admits for hitting the ball.

Crowler's been needing new contacts for ages and now he has the perfect excuse and the new prodigy.

Jaden and Syrus over hear this and Crowler tells them to leave. It's time Bastion Misawa consulted with him! At the Obelisk Blue dorm, Chazz orders a foot rub and iced tea but his friends decline, telling him to get them himself. Doesn't he know? Guess not. Where does he think he's sitting? Chazz replies "my seat" but one of the students tells him it's not his seat anymore.

What are they talking about, of course it's his seat, it says it right here...! "Sorry Chazz, but you've been moved way over there" said the student pointing to the Slifer Red seating. No way, this is...all wrong, he doesn't belong over there with those losers! He orders Crowler to tell everyone it's a mistake. Crowler says it's no mistake since he lost to Jaden Yuki, a Slifer! Then he says that tomorrow Chazz will duel Bastion Misawa and if he loses, they switch dorms. Now if only he could duel as well as he listened. The crowd snickers, then laughs louder. Chazz won't be a Ra!

At the Ra Yellow Dorm, Bastion Misawa shows them his room, which is covered in formulas and Bastion Misawa says that he's running out of room. He then asks if Jaden and Syrus want to help him paint. After painting, Bastion Misawa serves them lunch (or is it dinner?) and Syrus asks Bastion Misawa what he was talking to Crowler about back at the game. Bastion Misawa replies that he's been put to test to become an Obelisk. Syrus and Jaden scarf down their food. At his dorm, Chazz is watching a video of his older brothers, who tell him that they've kept their end of their deal and they hope Chazz is too.

Back at their dorm, Chumley asks why Bastion Misawa's here and Syrus tells him that Bastion Misawa painted his room and they let him sleep here. How do they know they can trust him? Syrus says that he let them eat at the Ra Dining Hall. Dorothy knocks on their door and after Jaden asks what's going on, she tells him that she came back from the kitchen and saw cards everywhere.

Syrus and Jaden discover the cards are Bastion Misawa's. What is he going to do, his promotion exam is in an hour! Bastion Misawa arrives with Jaden and Syrus, who tell Chazz that he's the one who tossed the cards. Chazz says he didn't do a thing. Alexis disagrees, she saw him dump the cards and run. Bastion Misawa says to just start the duel. How can he duel? Bastion Misawa replies that a good duelist has an extra deck, or a few of them and shows that he has 6 decks beneath his jacket.

Chazz draws and plays Chthonian Soldier (1200) in Attack Mode and sets a card to end his turn. Bastion Misawa draws and summons Hydrogeddon (1600) in Attack Mode. He attacks, destroying Chthonian Soldier and putting Chazz's LPs to 3600. Chazz thanks Bastion Misawa for he activates Chthonian Soldier's ability, dealing Bastion Misawa the same damage he took, putting Bastion Misawa's score even with Chazz's. Bastion Misawa also activates a special ability for when Hydrogeddon destroys a monster in battle, he can play another Hydrogeddon in Attack Mode and does so. Then, he attacks directly with his newly summoned Hydrogeddon, putting Chazz's score to 2000.

Chazz activates Call of the Haunted to bring back his Chthonian Soldier. Then he plays Inferno Reckless Summon, allowing both of them to summon all monsters with the same name as the ones on their field. He summons another Chthonian Soldier and Bastion Misawa summons another Hydrogeddon. Alexis doesn't get it, no matter how many Chthonian Soldiers Chazz has, they still won't be able to defeat Bastion Misawa's Hydrogeddon. "Not by themselves they won't" Zane says. Chazz activates Chthonian Alliance, giving his Chthonian Soldier 800 ATK for every monster with the same name it has. (The real card gives the equipped monster 800 ATK for every monsters with the same name other than the equipped monster.) CS's ATK rises to 3600. He attacks, destroying Hydrogeddon and putting Bastion Misawa's LPs to 1600. Bastion Misawa says good show and draws.

He summons Oxygeddon (1800) in Attack Mode and attacks one of the normal ATK CS, destroying it and putting Chazz's LPs to 1400. Did he forget? When CS is destroyed Bastion Misawa takes the same damage Chazz did, putting his score to 1000. He then attacks another CS, destroying it and putting Chazz's LPs to 1000 and Bastion Misawa's LPs drop to 600. Why does he keep attacking? He's only hurting himself. Zane says he's playing smart for the CS with the equip Spell is at 3600, so Bastion Misawa would have to summon a pretty powerful monster to destroy it, unless, however he destroys the others first.

The remaining CS's ATK drops to 2000. Bastion Misawa sets a card and ends his turn. Chazz tributes his CS and discards his hand for Infernal Incinerator (2800) in Attack Mode. Pus, it gets stronger by 200 ATK for every monster Bastion Misawa controls. (The real card also lowers its ATK by 500 for every monster you control except itself) II's ATK rises to 3400. He attacks but Bastion Misawa activates Amorphous Barrier, which negates Chazz's attack and ends the Battle Phase since Bastion Misawa has at least 3 monsters out. One turn, Chazz says. That's all it buys him, then he's finished! Bastion Misawa says there won't be a next turn.

He draws and activates Bonding - H2O. He tributes 2 Hydrogeddons and 1 Oxygeddon for Water Dragon (2800) in Attack Mode. Since the number of monsters Bastion Misawa has decreased, so does II's, reducing its ATK to 3000. Bastion Misawa says he'd better double check his work for II's ATK drops to 0. Water Dragon's effect reduces the ATK of all Pyro-Type and FIRE monsters to 0 when he's on the field. He attacks, destroying II and reducing Chazz's LPs to 0.

Chazz says Bastion Misawa got a lucky card. Crowler congratulates Bastion Misawa to Obelisk Blue but Bastion Misawa declines, saying that he would only enter Obelisk Blue when he became the number one duelist in the Freshmen class. He still has may formulas to solve and assures Jaden that his room will soon be filled with new formulas. They both stare each other down engulfed by flames.
