Episode 9: Family Business

On a boat, Chumley's dad is heading towards Duel Academy. He won't let Chumley waste one more slacking day at that school, he's coming home! Outside, Jaden is relaxing in a not so private area when Syrus shows up, telling Jaden that Chumley's father has arrived to force Chumley to drop out of Duel Academy. Whilst peeking through the door, he and Jaden hear Mr. Huffington and Professor Banner chatting. Mr. Huffington says he wants Chumley to quit dueling and come home to the hot sauce business. Banner does like hot sauce doesn't he? Banner says he can't get enough of it, obviously lying between his teeth. Mr. Huffington offers Banner a free sample, insisting that Banner take it as a goodbye gift from he and Chumley.

Jaden and Syrus race off to talk some sense into Chumley but as they rush through the door, they see him packing. It looks like he's giving up, like he's taking everything he worked so hard for and throwing it all away! He doesn't even care! Jaden turns Chumley around to see tears pouring from Chumley's eyes. Chumley asks to be left alone. It's not like he needs to be wasting their time on anyhow, at least according to his dad. He could be a champion duelist and he has a special power that he hasn't told anyone about. Has he told it to his dad? Chumley says no because all his dad cares about is hot sauce. The three of them race off and tell their story to Chancellor Sheppard. Sure, he has a gift, for eating grilled cheese! says Mr. Huffington somewhat sarcastically. Jaden is not only his roommate but his pal. Chancellor Sheppard appreciates Jaden and Syrus for sticking up for Chumley but he says it's a personal matter.

Mr. Huffington proposes a duel, father vs. son and if Chumley wins, he can stay at the academy but if he loses, he comes home. Outside Duel Academy, Jaden says it was easy to get Chumley to stay but Syrus reminds him that Chumley still has to win to stay. So what, Chumley's dad doesn't know how to duel, he's an amateur! Banner tells Jaden that Mr. Huffington's been state duel champion three years in a row. Wait until they see his deck! He earns a living off of his special hot sauce and his deck is the kick of this hot sauce. After a brief huddle, Jaden proclaims that they get Chumley's deck ready.

Meanwhile, inside the dorm, Mr. Huffington and Banner are having some hot sauce where Mr. C almost forces Banner to have more and Banner says he's very generous. Mr. Huffington would say so and so would Pharaoh, Banner's cat. (Why is a cat drinking hot sauce? Since when do cats drink hot sauce?) Good thing Banner stocked up on kitty litter. Mr. Huffington decides to step outside and overhears Jaden and Chumley's conversation. What's with all his koala cards? They're Chumley's favorite, duh! Jaden agrees they are cool but can Chumley win with them?

Syrus offers Chumley his Des Kangaroo card. If he uses it with his koalas, Syrus says, he'll have a deck from down under! Jaden's got something for him too, which he says will come in handy. Outside, Mr. Huffington stares into the darkness. The next day, Banner re-explains the rules and stakes for the match. He then asks Chumley if he's okay with the stakes and being able to handle working for his dad. Chumley says he can handle anything right now.

Both duelists activate their duel disks and Chumley draws and summons Des Koala (1100) in Attack Mode. Doesn't Chumley know that if he placed it in Defense Mode then later flipped it into Attack Mode it would've dealt his dad 400 points of damage for every card in his hand? Duh, of course he knew that, at least now he does. Too late, his dad says. He should've taken his studies more seriously! Maybe now he'll learn! Banner says to watch Mr. Huffington closely as they may learn something. Jaden just hopes it's not the one-turn finisher he's known for!

He charges towards Chumley and summons Dizzy Tiger (1800) in Attack Mode. Why's he dizzy? Syrus asks. It looks like from too much hot sauce. (How can you become dizzy from hot sauce let alone too much of it?) Anyway, he attacks, destroying Des Koala and putting Chumley's score to 3300. At this rate they'll be home in time for dinner, which will be hot sauce. Chumley draws, inspects his hand, saying it just might work and activates Koala March, letting him Special Summon a monster from his Graveyard as long as it is less than level 5 and he revives Des Koala. Banner explains that Koala March also lets him summon another Koala monster if it is the same one he brought back from his Graveyard.

Then he tributes both Des Koalas for Big Koala (2700) in Attack Mode. Not bad, Mr. Huffington says. He attacks Dizzy Tiger, destroying him and reducing Mr. Huffington's LPs to 3100. Mr. Huffington draws and summons Dizzy Angel (1800) in Attack Mode. Then he equips her with Hot Sauce Bottle and plays Flipping the Table, which destroys all cards on his field except itself and that same number is destroyed on Chumley's field. Why is Dizzy Angel still there? Mr. Huffington explains that her effect prevents her from being destroyed by Flipping the Table. Then his Hot Sauce Bottle deals Chumley 500 damage, putting his score at 2800. Next he attacks directly, leaving Chumley with 1000 LPs. Chumley draws, its Des Kangaroo, which he remembers Syrus giving him. He plays Silent Doom, which when shown at 15:17 into the episode, has been modified for US.

It allows him to bring back a monster from his Graveyard and he chooses Big Koala in Defense Mode. Then he uses Polymerization to summon Master of Oz (4200) in Attack Mode. His dad knew it was coming and remembers the chat he heard from outside. Chumley attacks with Oz, destroying Dizzy Angel and reducing Mr. Huffington's LPs to 700. Chumley forgets, with one flip of the table Master of Oz will be gone. Chumley says he knows the weakness of Flipping the Table, his father can't summon a single monster, so he'll be defenseless! (Not really since he could set a monster.)
He activates two more Hot Sauce Bottles and equips them on Oz then uses Flipping the Table's effect, destroying Master of Oz and the two Hot Sauce Bottle cards, wiping out Chumley's remaining LPs. Back at their dorm, Chumley is packing and after shedding of tears, they know it's time to say goodbye. They race out to see that Chumley's dad isn't there. Banner explains that his father had to leave and presents him with the note, which allows him to stay at DA (Duel Academy for short). Chumley says he'll make his dad proud. Meanwhile, his dad is rowing away from DA.
