Episode 224: The Final Duel (4)

At the duel, Yugi knows he needs a way to beat Dark Magician and it's somewhere in his deck so he sets a monster and puts Curse of Dragon to Defense Mode. Mokuba realizes they should've sold tickets to this. Atem suspects Yugi's hidden monster is Marshmallon, the card Yugi added to his hand with Witch of the Black Forest's effect. However, Atem has a different plan and uses Thousand Knives, letting him destroy any one of Yugi's monsters since Dark Magician is on his own field and he destroys Yugi's hidden Marshmallon. Next he takes out Yugi's Curse of Dragon with his Dark Magician's attack. Yugi draws and plays Blockman (1500) in Defense Mode, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Atem draws and equips Dark Magician with Dark Spear, letting Dark Magician obtain the Fairy Meteor Crush effect. His attack prompts Yugi to activate Soul Shield to pay half his LPs and end the Battle Phase, bringing his score down to 400.

Yugi draws and activates Gold Sarcophagus, letting him seal away 1 card from his deck in the box and negating Atem's card if it's the same card sealed away. (The real card does let you remove from play 1 card in your deck but it gets added to your hand during your 2nd Standby Phase.) Next, he uses Blockman's effect to make it two monsters, which he tributes for Gandora, the Dragon of Destruction (????) in Attack Mode. (The real card's original ATK and DEF are 0. The real Blockman's effect only includes your turns, which would be 1 turn in Yugi's case.) Atem never knew Yugi had the card but Yugi uses Gandora's effect to pay half his LPs to send every monster on the field to the Graveyard, bringing his score down to 200 but Atem activates Dark Illusion, saving his Dark Magician from card effects this turn and letting Yugi draw 1 card. (The real card negates any card effect that targets a DARK monster and destroys that card so Gandora wouldn't have been stopped in this case. Gandora in the TCG destroys and removes from play all other cards from play and gains 300 ATK for each one before being sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase.)

Yugi sets 2 cards to end his turn. Atem draws and attacks but Yugi activates Magician's Circle, letting both players play a Spellcaster-Type monster and while Yugi chooses Silent Magician (Silent Magician LV4 in the CG) (1000) in Attack Mode, Atem chooses Dark Magician Girl (2000) in Attack Mode. Atem resumes his attack with DM but Yugi activates Spell Textbook to discard all cards in his and and draw 1 card. If its a Spell Card, he can activate it immediately but has nothing to discard (and in the CG you couldn't use it). His draw yields him Card of Sanctity to force both players to draw cards until they have six cards in their hands. Furthermore, Yugi's Silent Magician gains 500 ATK and 1 Level for each card drawn and since Atem drew 5 cards, Silent Magician becomes Silent Magician LV5 with 3500 ATK. (The real Silent Magician gets 1 Spell Counter each time your opponent draws at least 1 card so whether they draw 1 or 10 cards at once, SMLV4 gets only 1 Spell Counter.)

Once again, eAtem resumes his attack and activates Magicians Unite to make his two Spellcasters' ATKs 3000 but they're both destroyed, leaving Atem down to 200 LPs. (The real card makes you select 1 Spellcaster-Type monster on your field and make its ATK 3000 and all other Spellcaster-Type monsters on your field can't attack that turn.) It's down to Atem's last turn and he uses Monster Reborn in an attempt to revive Slifer the Sky Dragon but this is what Yugi would've done if he were in Atem's place, which is why he was prepared as the card he sealed away was Monster Reborn so Atem's MR is negated (and Slifer wasn't defeated because it never fully hit the field).

Yugi breaks into tears as his turn has come and it means he'd win the duel and set Atem free, meaning that none of them would see him ever again. Atem gives Yugi enough strength to complete a direct attack and win the duel before Yugi resumes being in tears.

Atem walks over and his words slowly bring Yugi out from his slump before the Eye of Oujat activates and opens its doors after getting Atem's name. As Atem walks the steps, his friends don't want to see him go, especially Tristan. Joey however stays strong and gets the others to strengthen up their feelings as Atem disappears. The doors begin closing and Joey holds Tea` back but now the place is coming down so they bolt out in time to see the dust settle with Shadi's spirit watching. Once outside, it doesn't feel right but Yugi adds that sometimes the beginning of one adventure is the start of another.
