Episode 188: Let the Games Begin! (2)

At the duel, Joey takes Apnarg Otum's advice by playing Goblin Attack Force (2300) in Attack Mode and attacks but Apnarg activates Ordeal of a Traveler, letting him pick a card and Joey must guess its type. (The real card forces your opponent to do both the picking and the guessing.) If Joey's right, his attack continues but if not, his monster returns to his hand. Apnarg is getting impatient (or is trying to make Joey guess wrong) and Joey considers his guess before choosing a Trap Card but it turns out to be the Monster Card Sinister Serpent, forcing Joey to return the monster to his hand and sets 1 card to end his turn.

Apnarg reminds Joey that OoaT is a Continuous Trap so he'll have to guess each time he wants to attack, then draws and attacks Joey directly, but Joey activates Scapegoat instead. Nevertheless, Apnarg plays Ancient Tome (which gets a redesign as shown at 4:22 into the US episode), letting him swap a card in his hand with one from his deck (on top of the deck actually), leaving Joey disappointed as he was all ready to guess for his next attack. Next he puts his Stone Giants into Defense Mode and ends his turn, causing him to lose 1000 LPs by their combined effects, bringing his score down to 4000 and turning the Ancient Key a bit. Joey draws and plays his GAF in Attack Mode once more but chooses not to attack. The gang don't know what Apnarg's strategy is but Yugi feels Professor Hawkins does. At the rollercoaster duel, Richard Goat has lost to Leon Wilson and learns when his next appointment is.

Meanwhile, Rex and Weevil are staggering along, complaining of heat and hunger but they arrive and begin a plan to enter the tournament but Rex having ideas is what worries Weevil. Back at the duel, Apnarg pays the cost of Ancient Tome, which forces him to discard 1 card but due to Sinister Serpent's effect, it comes right back to his hand (stuff like this are why Sinister Serpent is banned in tournaments). Joey has had enough but Apnarg hasn't played his best card yet and only a few steps remain until it appears. He switches his Stone Giants back to Attack Mode, turning the Ancient Key once more. Furthermore, he uses the effect of Ancient Key to send his Ancient Gate, Ancient Tome and Ancient Giant to the Graveyard for Ancient Dragon (2800) in Attack Mode. (A card with the same name exists in the CG but it's much weaker.)

Professor Hawkins reveals that he has the Ancient Dragon card in his deck but doesn't have all the components needed to play it. He and Apnarg had been in a competition to track down all seven cards (and apparently making a bet to give the winner a chocolate shake as we'll soon see) and they were tied at 6 cards each until Apnarg adds that he found the last card. Apnarg attacks, destroying GAF and all the Scapegoats, explaining that AD destroys all of Joey's monsters in Defense Mode when it beats another monster in battle, leaving Joey defenseless and down to 1700 LPs. Joey has to be number one but his friends remind him to have fun. Joey draws and uses Roll of Fate to roll a die and draw an equal number of cards, then remove from play that number of cards from the top of his deck. His roll yields a 4 while Apnarg's Gambler gets a 3, letting Joey get 4 cards and is very pleased. Next Joey activates Landstar Forces to bring out all Landstar monsters in his hand, summoning Brigadier of Landstar (900), Knight of Landstar (1000) and Grappler of Landstar (1000) in Attack Mode. Next he tributes them for Gilford the Lightning (2800) in Attack Mode. Since GtL was Tribute Summoned with 3 monsters, it destroys all of Apnarg's monsters, leaving him defenseless. He attacks directly, correctly identifying the Sinister Serpent in Apnarg's hand, bringing Apnarg down to 1200 LPs.

However, Apnarg snickers as his AD returns thanks to AC's effect. Apnarg draws and attacks, destroying both his and Joey's monsters but AD returns once more. Joey draws and uses Pot of Greed. Then he uses Premature Burial to revive his GAF for 800 LPs, bringing his score down to 900. Next he uses Giant Trunade to return all Spell and Trap Cards on the field to the owners' hands, leaving nothing to protect Apnarg's Ancient Dragon. With PB back in Joey's hand he uses it again, leaving his score down to 100 and reviving GtL. His attacks destroy AD and win Joey the duel. Joey just wishes he knew whom his opponent was but he does as his opponent reveals himself as Solomon Muto and came here in hopes of dueling Joey to test him and gives him an A+. Why the name Apnarg? It's grandpa spelt backwards!
