Episode 156: Fate of the Pharaoh (1)

As sunrise approaches, Duke races ahead until a speed bump of sorts ejects Tristan and Joey from the car. As he spots them with binoculars, they're starting to regret the journey by car. Yami arrives and separates himself from his horse, landing on the pillar of rock where a bridge connects the gap between him and Raphael. He walks across the bridge as Raphael says the rodeo tricks won't be enough to save him. Yami demands release of Professor Hawkins but is told that Hawkins has already been set free and is asked about staying a while as Raphael cuts the ropes with two axes that he throws at the bridge. All Raphael is trying to do is save the world from people like Yami but doesn't he see that he's going to destroy the world? Raphael brought Yami here to duel and isn't going to put it off another minute. Yami accepts just as sunrise arrives.

With that, Raphael begins the duel with Guardian Treasure, letting him draw 2 cards by discarding all cards in his hand to the Graveyard, then letting him draw an additional card during each of his Draw Phases. Yami quickly concludes that Raphael is searching for the Seal of Orichalcos. Next, Raphael sets a monster in Defense Mode (not Summons as he says from 6:00 to 6:03 into the US episode) and sets 1 card to end his turn. Yami realizes that although crazy, he does have a point and can take an early lead if he can destroy Raphael's Defense Position monster (not unless your monster inflicts piercing Battle Damage). Yami uses Polymerization for Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast (2100) in Attack Mode. His attack reveals Raphael's hidden Backup Gardna (2200) in Defense Mode, enough to survive against Chimera and leave Yami down to 3900 LPs.

Raphael draws and uses Gravity Axe (Gravity Axe  - Grarl in the CG), letting him play Guardian Grarl (2500) in Attack Mode, then gives it the Gravity Axe card, raising its ATK by 500 to 3000. (What they aren't telling you is that Backup Gardna's effect lets it move Equip Spells equipped to it to another monster and when Raphael used Gravity Axe, it was equipped to BG, then moved to GG by its own effect. Plus if GG is the only card in hand, Raphael can play  it without tribute.) Raphael's attack destroys Chimera, leaving Yami down to 3000 LPs and activating Chimera's effect to replace it with Berfomet (1400) in Attack Mode. Raphael isn't worried since his deck is filled with Guardian monsters, each one more powerful than the next and while Yami asks what is meant by that, inside the trailer, Tea` checks on the still sleeping Professor Hawkins.

Rebecca isn't asleep though and found an article about a boy that made it to an island after a cruise ship sank 12 years ago and was named Raphael, the same guy dueling Yami. Back at the duel, Raphael says Yami couldn't understand the bond he has with his Guardian monsters but Yami does and respects all of his monsters. However, Raphael shows Yami his worn out cards, stating that he won't replace them despite their condition (which would indicate they aren't as protected as you claim or they'd be mint. If you came to the US or Japan, you could get card sleeves to protect your cards but they'd probably pose a problem for the Duel Disk.). It was Raphael's very monsters that saved his life and Raphael shares his story.

Even when he finishes, Yami still doesn't buy it and concludes that he'll still be there even when Raphael's plan takes effect. Just then, Rex and Weevil appear from the edge of the cliff and end up on the other side of the bridge to watch as Yami uses Five-Star Twilight to tribute his Level 5 Berfomet and replace it with Kuriboh, Kuriba, Kuribi, Kuribu, and Kuribe (300 x5) in Attack Mode but Raphael ridicules them so Yami combines them for Kuribabylon (1500) in Attack Mode and doubles its ATK to 3000 with Pump Up. Yami attacks but from his Graveyard, Raphael activates Rescuer from the Grave, negating the attack by removing from play 5 cards in his Graveyard (which is also not stated, only referenced in the US). Raphael draws and sets 2 cards before activating his hidden Purity of the Cemetery, dealing Yami 100 damage for each monster in his Graveyard while Raphael's Graveyard has no monsters.

As a twist, Raphael isn't interested in activating the Seal of Orichalcos but will seal Yami's soul by Yami's own doing. None of Yami's monsters come close to Raphael's GG and Raphael attacks!
