Episode 131: Clash in the Coliseum (3)

At the duel, Yami and Kaiba stare at each other and Mokuba arrives in shock. In Battle City, the crowd is also in awe (and a 2:44, Rex has the DR on his hat, short for his Japanese name Dinosaur Ryuzuki or something like that). Back in Joey's hospital room, while the rest of the group continue hoping Joey wakes up when Tristan enters with the good news that a helicopter is on the way. Duke shows them the duel in progress and they hope that Yami's God Card is stronger. However, Kaiba's summoning of Obelisk has triggered Slifer's effect, lowering Obelisk's ATK to 2000 and Kaiba protests that stalling is a sign of weakness and sets 2 cards to end his turn. Yami draws, raising his monster's ATK by 1000 to 3000, enough to beat Obelisk but since Yami's turn is over (since when?), Obelisk's ATK is restored. Yami is ready with his face down Pot of Greed card, drawing 2 more cards and raising Slifer's stats to 5000.

He attacks but Kaiba activates Command Silencer, stopping the attack and letting Kaiba draw 1 card. Kaiba isn't concerned that Slifer is stronger as he still has 1 face down card but Yami ends his turn by setting 2 cards, dropping Slifer's stats to 3000. Kaiba draws but Yami activates Card Destruction, forcing both players to discard all cards in their hands and redraw the same number of cards discarded. Next, he uses Disgraceful Charity to give both players back all cards discarded to their Graveyards this turn, raising Slifer's stats to 6000. However, this gave Kaiba what he needs to win as he uses Thirst for Compensation to Special Summon Sword of Soul (1900) and Blade Knight (1000) in Defense Mode, triggering Slifer's effect. In response, Kaiba activates Card Guard to discard one card, (not two as he says from 9:24 to 9:30 into the US episode as we can clearly see he's discarding 1 and on the subject, a card with the same name and a similar effect exists but it's an Effect Monster) to prevent the monsters from being destroyed by Slifer's effect.

Yami protests that the monsters are too weak to be useful but Kaiba tributes them to activate Obelisk's effect to destroy all monsters on the field and deal Yami 4000 damage. Yami is ready and discards Kuriboh to spare his Life Points. (The real card's effect can only be used against Battle Damage.) Kaiba sets 1 card to end his turn. With another new card in hand, Slifer's ATK rises to 6000 (are we forgetting that we discarded Kuriboh?) and Yami attacks, forcing Kaiba to activate Power Balance, causing Yami to discard half the cards in his hand while Kaiba himself draws 3 cards. Yami takes his turn by activating Necromancy, Special Summoning Blade Knight, Sword of Soul, Kaiser Sea Horse (1650) and X-Head Cannon (1500) all in Defense Mode and if any are destroyed, the remaining monsters Kaiba has lose 600 ATK per destroyed monster. Plus, since Slifer's effect is activated, all four of these monsters are destroyed, leaving Obelisk to lose 2400 ATK to 1600.In doing so, Kaiba's SoS' effect was activated, letting Kaiba add 1000 ATK to any monster and he chose Obelisk, raising its ATK by 1000 to 2600. Kaiba counterattacks but the attack is stopped, thanks to Yami's Electromagnetic Turtle's effect. Next, Yami sets 1 card to end his turn, leaving Slifer's stats at 1000.

Kaiba draws and attacks but Yami acivates his hidden card Spell Textbook, which by discarding all cards in his hand lets him draw 1 card and activate the card if a Spell Card is drawn. Yami' draw yields him Card of Sanctity, forcing both players to draw cards until their hands hold 6 (with the real card, you remove from play all cards you control and in your hand to draw cards until your hand hold 2), raising Slifer's ATK back up to 6000 but Kaiba activates Life Shaver, forcing Slifer to lose 2000 ATK. When the two God Cards clash, however, an extremely bright sphere of light appears, blinding all watching the duel of what's going on and shattering the glass on each TV in Battle City. Ishizu realizes that ancient egypt's past is beginning to reveal itself and she fears for everyone!
