Episode 124: Back to Battle City (3)

Below the finalists, Tea` cannot seem to follow the duel and Tristan fills her in. Dark Marik begins his turn with Dark Jeroid (1200) and after some consideration, chooses Joey's Gearfried, lowering its ATK by 800 to 1000 by DJ's effect and shrinking its holographic image. However, with his attack, Joey activates Skull Dice and rolls a 2, cutting DJ's ATK in half to 600. Joey attempts to strike back but his monster's hologram shrinks again as Kaiba activated Shrink, halving Gearfried's ATK to 500, letting DM's DJ destroy  it and leave Joey down to 3200 LPs. Yami advises Joey to stay calm and Serenity assures the lifeless Mai Valentine that Joey is fighting for her and we see what could be Mai's current state in the hourglass Dark Marik trapped her in with sand now filled about 2/3 of the way.

Back at the duel, Yami draws and considers his options. The gang below are feeling Yami's thoughts but Tea` adds that Joey wants to face Dark Marik as stated to her after Dark Marik defeated Mai. At last, Yami decides to attack Dark Marik's monster but changes his attack to Joey after Joey protests otherwise, leaving his score down to 1000 and highest up the tower Joey draws, getting exactly what he needs to ensure he faces Dark Marik and summons Axe Raider (1700) in Attack Mode. His attack target confuses the audience until they realize it's part of Joey's plan but everyone's fears are confirmed as Kaiba activates Ring of Destruction to destroy AR and chains Ring of Defense to save his LPs while Joey takes 1700 damage.
Joey's monster is destroyed but when the smoke clears, Dark Marik's core drops to 0 as Joey activated Graverobber to use DM's Spell of Pain card on DM.However, Mokuba reminds them of Joey's situation and since it's Kaiba's turn, he draws and attacks Joey directly, leaving Joey's score at 0 and letting him join DM. The semi-finals are ready to begin with Joey facing Dark Marik and Yami facing Kaiba. The remaining finalists are escorted to the top so let the semi finals begin!
