Episode 122: Back to Battle City (1)

After a recap of what happened before the trip to the Virtual World, we get a new intro that uses the Season 1 music. In the skies above, Roland states that they're back on course for Kaiba Corp Island and Kaiba adds that there are four finalists including himself but he plans to be the world's greatest duelists on his Duel Tower. Meanwhile, Joey enters Mai's room and learns that Mai hasn't said a word. If losing to Dark Mark brought her here then maybe defeating Dark Marik will bring her back. Speaking of which, Dark Marik enters Ishizu's room, asking where Odeon is and doesn't accept her reply. He asks if she'd take back what she said, considering she's powerless without her Millennium Necklace (that she gave to Yugi) and therefore can't hold back against Dark Marik's Millennium Rod.

He offers her one last chance but comes to like the fear he sees in her eyes and has to go win the tournament but compliments on how nice it was chatting with her. Inside Bakura's room, Yugi wonders why Dark Marik is targeting his friends when he wants Yugi and Yami figures Dark Marik is hoping to weaken them by targeting their friends. They can't let that happen and must win the tournament and save the world!  Tristan, Duke and Tea` appear, urging Yugi to come with them as the tournament is about to continue. The Kaiba Corp Jet touches town as Roland instructs for them to exit and wait further instruction. Kaiba explains that they're on the site of the original Kaiba Corp and the Duel Tower is where the finals are to be held before protesting that Joey shouldn't be in his tournament.

Dark Marik taunts Yugi, whom has since become Yami after Kaiba stated he'll defeat him at the top of the Duel Tower, but isn't phased so Dark Marik learns of when the next duel will start once they get inside. Once inside, Roland states that the road to the finals begins there and each duelist must choose one of the four doors wisely. While the others choose a door without much thought, Joey is stuck with one as Dark Marik chose the same door he had originally chosen himself. Mokuba brings the non-finalists up a floor where the finalists appear on a moving platform.

Roland adds that they have to narrow down the finalists with this preliminary duel and players rise up the tower as their LPs decrease with the first two reaching the top facing each other. For three of the finalists, they think things over carefully but Dark Marik doesn't care who his next opponent is, confident that he'll drain the pharaoh of his powers either way. To find out who goes first, the players will reveal a Monster Card from their Decks but it can't be used. Kaiba chooses Masked Beast Des Gardius (a good choice, especially considering that he can't use it and it's quite powerful), Yami selects Feral Imp, Dark Marik chooses Lekunga and Joey decides to go last by choosing Swordsman of Landstar.

Kaiba begins by setting 1 card and summoning Vorse Raider (1900) in Attack Mode. Dark Marik summons Newdoria (800) in Defense Mode, thinking its effect will come in handy. Yami summons Big Shield Gardna (" ") (2600) in Defense Mode, then sets 2 cards to end his turn. Joey draws but has a terrible hand and can only set 1 card for his turn. It's just as Kaiba figured, Joey doesn't belong in the tournament and goes to attack Joey directly but Yami activates The Regulation of Tribe, preventing, under Yami's choice, Beast-Warriors from attacking. Yami and Joey are a team and Yami will always protect Joey.
