Episode 106: Mechanical Mayhem (1)

Somewhere in the Virtual World, Tristan, Duke Devlin and Serenity are outside feeling the breeze when Serenity assures that Tristan is keeping her safe but Tristan and Duke argue over the ordeal. Serenity's next comment reminds Tristan that the Big Five could duel one of them and assures Serenity that beating the Big Five is going to be like a walk in the park but cannot hide his guilt. Inside a cave, Yugi, Joey and Tea` are discussing the Big Five's next move when Joey races ahead, causing the other two to catch up.

Back outside, Duke, Serenity and Tristan spot a door and Duke doesn't want to go in but Serenity's curiosity is too much and she opens the door. The trio see that it looks like where they started but the airship is nowhere to be found and instead they are introduced to Nesbit, former VP of new technology at Kaiba Corp and to them in the virtual world, he's Robotic Knight. A Duel Disk appears on his arm and he decides to duel Serenity but the other two hope to change his mind. Tristan's suggestion gives Nesbit the idea to take all 3 of them on in a duel so they'll get three bodies (and where would that happen if there are only two of you left? Guess you're unaware that you have less comrades left than you realize). He forces all three of them to duel by giving them a Duel Disk and asks them to choose cards for their decks. Serenity gets brief coaching before selecting her cards. Duke makes Strike Ninja his Deck Master (and I note that it's stronger than the real card's), Serenity picks Goddess with the Third Eye while Tristan has chosen Super Roboyarou.

To make the duel more interesting, the floor opens up to reveal what Nesbit calls radioactive waste and as long as the rules are followed, especially the rule about not discussing strategies, they won't fall in. As ordered, Serenity starts the duel with Shadow Tamer (800) in Attack Mode. Tristan plays Cyber Commander (750) in Attack Mode, hoping to lead Nesbit to him instead of Serenity. However, Duke summons  The 13th Grave (900) in Defense Mode. Nesbit summons Giga-Tech Wolf (1200) in Attack Mode and attacks Serenity's Shadow Tamer, destroying it and leaving Serenity on the ground and down to 3600 LPs.

Her scream is heard by Joey and his group races to find her. Nesbit isn't done for he uses his Deck Master ability to discard 3 Machine-Type monsters and deal his opponents 500 damage, leaving Serenity at 3100 and both Duke and Tristan at 3500 LPs each. He sets 1 card to end his turn. Serenity plays The Forgiving Maiden (850) in Attack Mode, not realizing that there are separate positions for a monster's mode. (At 11:15 into the US episode, TFM has gotten a major makeover that overall does not resemble the monster on the artwork.) Tristan draws Block Attack and uses it in an attempt to put Serenity's monster in Defense Mode. (The real card can only be used on an opponent's Attack Position monster, which wouldn't help them at all.) However, Nesbit is ready with Riryoku Field, negating BA's effect and destroying it.

Meanwhile, Kaiba discovers Nesbit's old research lab and recalls a conversation he had with Nesbit. Noah can't keep leading Kaiba around like a puppet forever but Noah can do whatever he wants in his world and is having too much fun to stop. Back at the duel, Duke plays Yaranzo (1500) in Defense Mode, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Nesbit tributes GTW for Machine King (2200) in Attack Mode and after obtaining its 200 ATK boost to 2400, attacks Serenity's TFM but Tristan makes his monster the attack target, destroying his own monster and leaving Tristan down to 1850 as Duke says he could've protected Serenity without losing LPs. Next, Nesbit uses Card of Sanctity, forcing all four players to draw cards until their hands hold six cards (The real card forces you to remove from play all cards you control and in your hand to draw 2 cards.) Then he uses his Deck Master ability again, discarding another 3 Machines to the Grave to leave Serenity down to 2600, Tristan down to 1350 and Duke down to 3000 LPs respectively. Finally, he sets 1 card to end his turn.

Serenity learns from her mistake last turn and plays Lady Panther (1300) in Defense Mode, then puts her TFM to Defense Mode too. Tristan plays Command Angel (1900) in Defense Mode. Duke summons Dark Assailant (1200) in Defense Mode and points out that Nesbit can't use his Deck Master ability next turn but Nesbit activates Backup Soldier, letting him return 3 monsters back from his Grave since more than 5 are in his Grave. (The real card can only take back non-Effect Monsters with 1500 or less ATK, which is what Nesbit chooses.) He discards the monsters BS gave him to use his Deck Master ability and leave Tristan down to 850, Serenity down to 2100 and Duke down to 2500. Next he uses Clockwork Night (or Knight I suppose), turning all monsters the opponent controls to Machines, and lowering their ATKs by 500, leaving TFM down to 350, LP down to 900, CA down to 700, 13G and DA down to 700 and Yaranzo down to 800 ATK respectively.

Since they're all Machines, MK gains another 500 ATK, putting its ATK at 2900, then a further 500 ATK boost by CK's effect, putting its grand total to 3400 ATK. Then he uses Short Circuit to change all monsters on the field to Attack Mode. (It also, according to the Japanese version, prevents the affected monsters from attacking or using their effects but the card we have with the same name destroys all cards your opponent controls when you control at least 3 Batteryman monsters.) He attacks Serenity's monster but Tristan has his Deck Master Super Roboyaru (1200) to defend against the attack and Tristan uses its ability to set 1 card and raise its ATK by 1000 to 2200. However, the boost isn't enough and his Deck Master is destroyed. Tristan admits he was lying about being a great duelist and warns Duke to protect Serenity before plummeting into the radioactive waste as Nesbit explains his mind was digitized and his body is in a holding area and Duke and Serenity will join him!
