Episode 86: Awakening of Evil (1)

With the remaining finalists gathered around, Roland begins the selecting of the next two duelists. The results put Joey against Odeon and Joey is ready to go but Yugi mentally warns that Joey needs to be ready for anything. Once on the dueling platform, both duelists are still shuffling their decks but even after Odeon is done, Joey is still shuffling angrily. At last, Roland gets Joey to stop and both duelists take their places, where Joey calculates a nine-turn victory that everyone else fails to foresee how except for Serenity, whom just takes his word for it anyway.Marik mentally smirks that Odeon's Millennium Rod is a copy of his own and knows that Kaiba is also in his way of the boundless power of the pharaoh.

Joey is so concentrated on being a hero for defeating Marik that he fails to hold onto the cards in his hand and they slip away in a gust of wind but he manages to barely catch them and only Serenity shows his support. His start to the duel is much better as he plays Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800) in Attack Mode for his turn. Odeon plays the Field Spell Temple of the Kings, limiting the number of Spells and Traps Joey can use per turn. (The real card is a Continuous Spell that lets you activate Trap Cards the turn you set them.) Having this duel all figured out, Joey summons Tiny Guardian (Little-Winguard in the CG and it's an Effect Monster that lets you change its Battle Position once per turn.) (1400) in Attack Mode for his turn. Odeon sets 2 cards to end his turn so Joey brings out Hayabusa Knight (1000) in Attack Mode and figures that he'll now use Giant Trunade. Oops! At 10:42 into the US episode, Fairy Box (far right) is a Spell Card!

Joey uses Giant Trunade to return all of Odeon's Spells and Traps to his hand but nothing happens as Odeon activates Judgment of Anubis, negating the card and destroying all of Joey's monsters, deducting half their ATKs out of his LPs, leaving his score down to 1900. (The real card requires you to discard 1 card when your Spell and Trap Cards would be destroyed by an opponent's Spell Card effect. It negates the activation and destroys the card, then lets you destroy an opponent's monster and deal them damage equal to their destroyed monster's ATK.) Joey tries to convince everyone that he fell for the traps on purpose but again only Serenity believes it. Odeon sets another 2 cards face down for his turn and Joey's getting sick of this move.

Joey plays Alligator's Sword (1500) in Attack Mode, not completely determined to show Odeon how the game is played so he ends his turn. Odeon also passes (given that his row of face-down cards is full). Both duelists pass again so Joey plays Rocket Warrior (1500) in Attack Mode and attacks, activating Odeon's hidden Eye of Udjat card, redirecting Rocket Warrior's attack on AS but Joey activates Fairy Box, forcing Odeon to pick where he things AS is but misses. However, Joey's attack also triggered Odeon's 3 Embodiment of Apophis cards, each with 1600 ATK. (The real card doesn't need an opponent's attack to trigger its activation.) It takes skill and power not talk to win a duel. Once Odeon's three Apophis cards attack, Joey will see what Odeon means!
