Episode 65: Mime Control (1)

While walking along, Joey and his friends discuss the earlier victory over Weevil Underwood and achieving his Insect Queen card (which still is a Normal Monster at 1:26 into the US episode). As they head off to find Yugi, a Rare Hunter watches nearby, and is told to follow. Meanwhile, Marik prepares to have Yami duel the Quiet One and lose if all goes as planned. Said Quiet One is parked on a bench with three people looking with interest. Almost on cue, QO awakens via Marik's control, slips on a duel disk and heads off to find Yugi Muto, leaving the trio to wonder what they just saw. Yami and Yugi chat near an overpass about what Marik had said and after some encouraging words, Yami feels a dark presence coming.

Sure enough, QO arrives and Yugi quickly realizes it's Marik controlling whom we now know is Strings. Strings questions Yami calling himself Pharaoh when having no clue about how to use his power, then states that he's been chosen to take the power away. From inside her museum, Ishizu is anticipating this very duel. Yami Bakura enters the museum, trying to track down what his Millennium Ring detects is another Millennium Item. However, Ishizu moves far enough away for YB's Ring to maintain its detection of the power so YB finds the pharaoh's tablets instead. She knows full well that his brother wants a greater power and must fail at his quest for it or the world is in danger. Marik is still confident that he'll have the Millennium Puzzle once Strings beats Yami in their pending duel. Strings/Marik begins by setting 1 card and summoning Humanoid Slime (800) in Attack Mode, telling Yami it's the beginning of the end.

Yami mentally says what he thinks Strings/Marik's strategy is before also setting 1 card and playing Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts (1500) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 10:45 into the US episode, the stat graphic gives Gazelle 2100 DEF! With Yami's turn (apparently) over, Strings draws (and they've made Worm Drake a Level 6+ monster in the US as shown at 11:08 into the episode!), playing Worm Drake (1400) in Attack Mode and using Polymerization for Humanoid Worm Drake (2200) in Attack Mode. Oops! They've got De-Fusion's art on the card instead of Polymerization's at 11:22 into the US episode! Yami reminds him of the rule about Fusion Monsters being unable to attack the turn they are summoned (which doesn't exist in the CG) but Strings is prepared with the Quick Attack card, letting his Fusion Monster attack right away (and we know we aren't getting this card unless they change what it does because the aforementioned rule doesn't exist in the CG).

Oops! At 12:03 into the US episode, you can see 2 cards (likely Humanoid Slime and Worm Drake) on Strings' Duel Disk seconds before he activates his Quick Attack card when he just Fusion Summoned Humanoid Worm Drake! He attacks but Yami is prepared with De-Fusion, forcing S/M's WD and HS to re-emerge, having known the plan from the start. Yami draws Buster Blader, thinking it'll come in handy when S/M plays a stronger monster (you only have one monster on the field anyway). He brings out Beta The Magnet Warrior (1700) in Attack Mode and takes out both of S/M's monsters to leave him down to 3000 Life Points. However, S/M is just testing out Yami's strengths and weaknesses and plays Revival Jam (500) in Defense Mode, insisting Yami will fail if he attacks it.

Next he activates Jam Breeding Machine, letting him create a Slime Token each turn. (The real card does this but prevents you from summoning other monsters and you can't use the Tokens for a Tribute Summon). Yami takes his next turn by tributing his monsters for Buster Blader (2600) in Attack Mode and attacks but to his shock, Revival Jam splatters and reforms. (The real card costs 1000 Life Points to come back from the Grave and only does it during your following Standby Phase.) S/M brings out the 1st Slime Token that comes with 500 ATK before setting 1 card face down.

Oops! S/M's Duel Disk shows Jam Breeding Machine in Defense Position but it's a Spell Card and should be Revival Jam as shown at 18:27 into the US episode! After finding a potential flaw in S/M's strategy, Yami attacks but S/M activates Jam Defender, forcing RJ to block all of Yami's attacks while it's in Defense Mode (The real card doesn't care what mode RJ is in.) S/M draws and gets his 2nd Slime Token, then plays Nightmare's Steelcage to be safe in keeping both players' attacks at bay for 2 turns. Soon the Millennium Puzzle and the pharaoh's power will be Marik's forever!
