Episode 46: Dungeon Dice Monsters (1)

Outside his game shop, Solomon sweeps the street when Yugi steps outside with Tea` coming up to him. She learns about Solomon's weird behavior but before she can take it in , the duo learn about the new game shop. Despite his grandpa's words, Yugi decides to check out the store but Tea` drags him away before she's late to her first class again. Inside the store, a friend gives whom we learn is named Duke info regarding Yugi but Duke figures it was by cheating but Yugi couldn't defeat Duke Devlin at his own game could he? (Well you'd be surprised how often a player loses at his own game then wouldn't you?) He'll battle Yugi on his own turf and prove what a fraud he is. His friend questions this but that's not what Duke paid him for and unlike him, is after bigger prizes than money.

At school, Yugi shares the news and Joey knows a bit more about it having read the day's paper during his downtime. After all, he needs to keep all the winnings from Duelist Kingdom for his sister's operation, which he mentions is going great so far as the first thing she'll see is her brother. (If you need to save for the operation, how did  you get this info, given you'd have to pay first?) Their train of thought is interrupted by a crowd of coo'ing girls over Duke Devlin showing off his (clearly staged because no one could possibly do what he's doing here) skills with dice. Duke overhears the argument and suggests Joey play a game with him. Joey mentally gloats for a minute before the game gets underway.

Duke's claim about moving the dice to his right hand without touching the cup isn't bought by Joey (especially since Duke said they only needed ONE die yet he just suggested that BOTH dice were gone and even Joey's reasoning behind this isn't believable because no one really has telekinesis) but nevertheless, Joey falls right into the trap and challenges Duke to a Duel Monsters game. Duke accepts but doesn't have a deck of his own and suggests they build a new deck. Yugi protests that the game then becomes pure luck and there are cards they haven't seen before. Joey accepts the duel and they wager stakes. The match is to be held in his state-of-the-art dueling arena in his game shop after school (would've thought that if you had that you'd get the cards to go with it in case people like Joey DID challenge you to a duel. It's certainly what I would've done.)

Later that day, they arrive back at the game shop and enter an elevator with a box filled with card packs (possibly Pharaoh's Servant, given that Thousand-Eyes Restrict is on the front). Joey gets good pulls (though if my hunch is right about them being from PSV, then there are very few good cards in it, though this is still Season 1 so any high-Level monster is considered "good" here). They arrive at the dueling ring and discover TV cameras and Duke's cheerleaders already hard at work. Joey darts to his side of the arena, ordering Duke's squad to stay silent (can't blame him there, they are pretty annoying). Duke begins the duel with Oni Tank T-34 (1400) in Attack Mode. Joey brings out Sword Hunter (2450) in Attack Mode, mentally remembering its power-up effect and taking out Oni Tank with ease, leaving Duke down to 950 LPs. Duke plays Dark Bat (1000) in Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Joey summons Mad Sword Beast (1400) in Attack Mode and destroys DB, leaving Duke down to 550 LP as Duke learns of MSB's effect.

However, Duke then activates Michizure, destroying SH by its effect. Next he takes his turn by playing Spikebot (1800) in Attack Mode and MSB's destruction leaves Joey fearful as his score goes down to 1600 (though not shown). Regaining his confidence, Joey plays Goblin Attack Force (2300) in Attack Mode and destroys Spikebot to leave Duke's score down to just 50 points. Yugi isn't cheering, however as he notices that Duke is still calm despite being on the verge of defeat. He tries to warn Joey but Joey is stuck with the thought of Duke's squad cheering for him.

Duke plays Gradius (1200) in Attack Mode (which as we've already seen is NOT one of the most powerful monsters in your deck, Duke) and makes it the target of Limiter Removal, doubling its ATK to 2400 and Fairy Meteor Crush, dealing any extra damage between its ATK and Joey's GAF to Joey's score. His attack wins the duel and his squad continues cheering.True to his word, Duke orders Joey to put on a dog suit and treats him as such, penalizing him by throwing multiple dies at him. (On the bright side, Joey, Kaiba's not here to see this.) Yugi has had enough and becomes Yami, challenging Duke to another Duel Monsters game. However, Duke has a different game in mind, challenging Yami to a game of Dungeon Dice Monsters. Yami accepts, even blocking a die from hitting Joey. He's fallen into Duke's trap because his Dungeon Dice Monsters will destroy him!
