| Episode 42: The Ties of Friendship | |||

At the duel, when Yugi's statements won't get through to Rebecca, Solomon tries with the story of how he met Arthur Hawkins. It's not until the part about the cave-in that Rebecca begins to believe, at least for a little while and at that time suggests they return to the duel. Yugi takes his turn by playing Catapult Turtle (1000) in Attack Mode and uses Brain Control to take Rebecca's Millennium Shield. Once his, he uses CT's effect to get rid of MS. Next, his Summoned Skull takes out Cannon Soldier, leaving Rebecca down to 200 (now we know it's an error in the previous episode regarding CS' ATK because Rebecca took 1100 damage, meaning that Cannon Soldier DOES have 1400 ATK). After her excitement of her drawn card, Rebecca uses Judgment Blaster to discard 5 cards and destroy all monsters on Yugi's field. (A similar card in the CG called Final Destiny has the same activation cost of discarding 5 cards but destroys all cards on the field.) Next she plays her favorite monster, Shadow Ghoul (1600) in Attack Mode and with 11 monsters in her Grave, SG gains 1100 ATK for a total of 2700 ATK. Yugi protests that monsters have their own abilities (minus Normal Monsters, Yugi) and deserves respect, then sets a monster in Defense Mode (as you'd have to put the monster face up to summon it that way). Rebecca uses Stop Defense, revealing Yugi's face down Dark Magician (2500) to Attack Mode and her SG takes it out to leave Yugi's score down to 800. Yugi draws and plays Swords of Revealing Light where Rebecca passes her turn so he uses Monster Reborn on Dark Magician. She draws and plays another Cannon Soldier (1500) in Defense Mode, leaving Yugi with no choice but to take out and power up SG to 2800 ATK. Rebecca passes her next turn just as her grandfather did in his duel with Solomon. Yugi draws, then surrenders the duel, just as Solomon did and Rebecca cheers. She gets her wish until she discovers it's been torn and repaired and throws another fit. Arthur Hawkins arrives to calm her and also explains how Yugi really won the duel but wanted to prove that there's more than winning or losing. Rebecca apologizes and receives Yugi's Ties of Friendship card. Arthur suggests a duel with Solomon and while that gets settled, said Ties of Friendship falls on a Blue-Eyes White Dragon card. |
