Episode 26: Champion vs Creator (1)

Once again at the castle entrance, Kimo protests that only the dueling elite can get in, which means Yugi, Joey and Mai will fit right in. However, entry is not given to the others as Kimo asks if they think it's a High School Football game but Mai provides a diversion that gets them in with Kimo too slow to keep the door from closing in front of him. They reach the dueling area (for people whom have never been into the castle, they sure know their way around) and Joey tries to unleash his rage on Bandit Keith but isn't fast enough so BK directs them to the duel down below between Kaiba and Pegasus. Croquet confirms this and congratulates them on getting this far. Joey and Mai respond in a manner that makes Croquet leave.

The group return to watching the events below and Kaiba watches as Pegasus enters, assuring that Mokuba is still safe. Kaiba wants Pegasus to use his new dueling system, which leaves Pegasus perplexed at how it works. Pegasus agrees to use it, provided it's not him that actually operates it and shows who will. If Kaiba wins, Mokuba won't be prisoner but if he doesn't, his own soul will be captured like his brother's. Knowing that he cannot duel his own brother, Kaiba decides to duel the usual way and the room transforms. Yugi reminds Kaiba to believe in the Heart of the Cards to win but Kaiba doesn't need help, yet Pegasus disagrees.

The duel gets underway as Pegasus sets 1 monster and 1 card face down (which wouldn't make me feel better, probably worse). Kaiba figures Pegasus must be scheming something and draws, playing 1 face down card and summoning Rude Kaiser (1800) in Attack Mode. He attacks and takes out Pegasus' face down Toon Alligator (1600) in Defense Mode, leaving Pegasus to fake being scared. His act continues until he draws and plays Parrot Dragon (2000) in Attack Mode and attacks, activating Kaiba's hidden Mesmeric Control card, stopping the attack and reducing its ATK by 800 to 1200. (The real card isn't a Quick-Play and has a completely different effect.) PD gets taken out in Kaiba's counterattack, leaving Pegasus down to 1400 (though there's no indication of this).

Kaiba now suspects something isn't right and considers that Pegasus may be toying with him, then decides to play his Blue-Eyes. Before he can, Pegasus activates his Trap Card Prophecy (even though it is shown as a Spell Card at 14:01 into the US episode). With his card, Pegasus gets to guess whether or not the ATK of the monster he's about to play is greater or less than 2000. If right, he adds the card to his hand (and that's a major gamble for everyone else since you don't know what type of card it is). Naturally, he's right and gets Kaiba's BEWD. Kaiba puts his RK into Defense Mode to end his turn. Pegasus delves into Kaiba's mind to see his strategy, then sets a monster and another card face down, saying it's the best move that he could come up with (do you really think Kaiba doesn't know you have his BEWD card?). Kaiba plays Saggi the Dark Clown (600) in Attack Mode and his Crush Card. Oops! As Kaiba mentally goes through his strategy, Saggi's stats are incorrectly shown at 16:32 into the episode.

However, Pegasus counters with Negative Energy, doubling Saggi's ATK to 1200 (and whose art features Negative Energy Generator, unless this is their vain attempt to water down the card. The Japanese card name translates to Dark Energy, which is what the card is called after Pegasus flips up his face down Dark Rabbit (1100 to 2200 ATK by DE/NE's effect) to Attack Mode. Pegasus' attack takes out Saggi and leaves Kaiba's score down to 1000 and the audience in shock. Pegasus makes Kaiba look like a novice and he's only just begun to make use of his Millennium Eye!
