Episode 12: Trial by Red-Eyes

At the duel, Rex wants to see if Joey can hold up his offense by setting Trakadon (800) in Defense Mode. Joey takes out the monster with ease in his attack but who said Serpent Night Dragon was Rex's best monster? The group watching is stunned when Rex brings out Red-Eyes Black Dragon (Red-Eyes B. Dragon in the CG) (2400) in Attack Mode. Yugi's grandpa told him about the card. Its powers are supposed to rival those of the Blue-Eyes. (How? It's ATK and DEF pale in comparison to Blue-Eyes.) Rex powers up his Red-Eyes with Dragon Nails, raising its ATK by 600 to 3000 and takes out both of Joey's monsters to leave his score at just 235 as Rex explains that those that defend together are destroyed together. (Monsters don't work as a team for anything, at least not in this way, in the CG.) Joey draws and Rex gets an earful from Mai, eager to defeat her and decides to add a bit more to their stakes, reminding Joey himself of his face down Time Wizard card.

Joey agrees to the new conditions and flips up his face down Time Wizard (500) to Attack Mode and activates his effect, a gamble that takes a chunk out of his LPs (250 LPs to be exact for Joey's case) if it lands on a skull.

Joey wins out on the spin and Rex's Red-Eyes has turned to brittle stone and crumbles to the ground, wining Joey the duel, and Rex's anti'd up Star Chips and Red-Eyes card. To celebrate, Joey and Tristan attempt to give a high-five but Tristan just shoves him and the two break out into an argument that Tea` figures is just their way of showing they care. Darkness falls quickly and the group decide to set up camp with some mysterious being lurking in the bushes.

Joey is starving for food and goes to chow down on what we learn is a poisonous mushroom. Mai wants them to let Joey eat it and eats in front of them, willing to give food if they ask politely. While the others go off on their orders, Mai points Tea` to a makeshift shower nearby. Joey decides to cook the candy bar, which as Yugi says isn't a good idea and Mai still can't figure out why Tea` hangs out with them. They're her friends. Something moving freaks her out but nothing is there when Mai checks. At last food is ready and it's surprisingly good. Mai decides to go for a walk before a stranger captures her.

Another rustle in the bushes reveals that it's Bakura sneaking around and they all begin identifying themselves with Duel Monsters cards. Bakura suggests a friendly duel with nothing on the line and after the agreement is made, he transforms into another person with a Millennium Item that puts their souls into Yugi's deck and takes them to the Shadow Realm. As he goes to take the Millennium Puzzle, Yu-Gi-Oh comes out and sets the stakes for the duel. It's one Shadow Game Yu-Gi-Oh cannot win!
