Episode 2: The Gauntlet is Thrown

Joey gets involved in another Duel, this time against Tea` and ends up losing for the 5th time. Later, the group watch Rex and Weevil's championship Duel. Rex comes out relatively strong but Weevil combos his attack with an Equip Spell to win and claim both the title and the trophy. Pegasus congratulates Weevil and invites him to the tournament at Duelist Kingdom. Yugi gets a package in the mail and finds a globe, Star Chips and VHS tape with none of them able to make sense of it. Yugi plays the tape and finds Pegaus, whom informs Yugi that he was intrigued by the victory over Kaiba to where he wanted to try his skills with Yugi personally. Yugi is drawn into the TV, leaving his friends frozen and unable to help out.

Yugi becomes Yami and finds that the Duel they're taking part in has a 15 minute time limit but quickly finds himself struggling with Pegasus' pre-determined knowledge. Partway through, Pegasus shares the story of Shadow Games before suggesting they return to the Duel. Yami starts to get the upper hand, knowing full well that he's being toyed with. Pegasus regains control of the Duel and Yami tries to deliver the final blow for victory but time runs out. Pegasus isn't in a forgiving mood and captures Yugi's grandpa's soul before returning things to normal. Yugi must now enter the Duelist Kingom tournament if he ever wants to reclaim his grandpa's soul.
