Episode 96: Natural Instincts (1)
At the place where Bolton used to work, Yusei and crew watch their upgraded engines are put into place and are thrilled to have them but the company won't be seeing their president for a long time. Later, Luna and Leo race into the hideout and find Team 5Ds ready to go as Jack explains that the name refers to their marks. To make it official, everyone puts their hands in and becomes a member of Team 5Ds. The group head out and find the preliminary results posted, knowing that if they win twice, they'll be in the finals. However, they're up against Team Unicorn, the group they saw at the party but Team Unicorn is also the favorite to win after winning the Atlantis tournament the previous year. While the main group of Team 5Ds goes for their practice run, Luna, Leo, Akiza and Bruno watch from the stands. Trudge is also there as the tournament forbids autopilot and is an accident waiting to happen.
Team 5Ds' main members come out and are pleased with how the runners are handling things. From the stands, Trudge is eager to duel them again but heads off before he can explain what he means. Team 5Ds gets word that they have 2 minutes left and Yusei suggests they pull off at the next exit but Crow wants to keep going and ends up causing a crash with one of Team Unicorn's members, revealed as Breo. Another member, revealed as Andre runs to his aid as do the rest of Team 5Ds. However, the third member, revealed as Jean, concludes that it was a purposeful act in spite of Crow apologizing.
Breo is cool about the ordeal as he's not only in one piece but they have roughly 10 exact duplicates back in their garage thanks to their sponsors. Andre proposes a duel whereby if Yusei wins, he and his team don't pay the damages and Andre and his team will call it even. Andre proposes a one-on-one duel between him and Yusei but Crow and Jack know there's no reason to duel when they're already matched up for the preliminaries. However, Jean's words throw Jack over the edge and Jack convinces Yusei to the duel. While duel preparations get underway, Breo and Jean discuss how it's all a ruse to find out what Team 5Ds' strategy is.

Furthermore, Andre lets Yusei take the first turn just as Jean requested. so Yusei draws and plays Max Warrior (1800) in Attack Mode. Andre draws and summons Playful Possum (800) in Attack Mode. Next, since it's the weaker monster, Andre uses its effect to destroy itself. This allows Andre to Special Summon Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest (2600) in Attack Mode for 1000 LPs, bringing his score down to 3000. His attack takes out MW and leaves Yusei down to 3200 LPs. Finally, he sets 2 cards to end his turn. Yusei draws and activates Angel Baton (" ") to draw 2 cards and discard Quillbolt Hedgehog.

Then he uses another Angel Baton to draw twice more and discard Speed Warrior. Next he summons Junk Synchron (1300) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to Special Summon Speed Warrior (400) in Defense Mode from the Graveyard. After that, he uses Quillbolt Hedgehog's effect to Special Summon itself since Yusei control s a Tuner. Now he uses his monsters as Synchro Material for Junk Archer (2300) in Attack Mode. With that done, he uses JA's effect to remove Andre's Green Baboon from play. His direct attack prompts Andre to activate Battle Instinct to Special Summon Nimble Momonga (1000) in Attack Mode since he's being attacked directly. The attack destroys NM and leaves Andre down to 1700 LPs but NM's effect gives him not only 1000 LPs to 2700 but Special Summon two more Nimble Momongas in Defense Mode. (They have to be face-down in the CG.)

Worse still, now that Yusei's turn is over, Green Baboon returns to Andre's field. Andre then draws and uses Playful Possum's other effect to Special Summon itself since it was destroyed by its effect. Next, he tributes a NM and PP for Behemoth the King of All Animals (2700) in Attack Mode. Due to Behemoth's effect, Andre gets back the same number of Beast-Type monsters in his Graveyard as the ones used for its Tribute Summon and he retrieves 2 Nimble Momongas. Next he switches the remaining NM to Attack Mode. Perhaps Jean was wrong as if Yusei can be defeated this quickly, he and his team will be no trouble at all.
