Episode 1: On Your Mark, Get Set, DUEL!

We open the episode with a tour of an entirely new town and move into what looks like the Kaiba Dome where an MC announces the arrival of the apparent #1 ranked duelist Jack Atlas, whom appears on a one wheeled vehicle and suggests kicking the duel into overdrive (and sounding somewhat like Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh). Meanwhile, in a much dumpier part of town, another duelist on a two-wheeled vehicle is determined to settle his score with Jack. Much like the previous shows, there's a new set of characters and monsters. Jack waits for his opponent while his apparent rival drives along on his own vehicle. Hunter Pace, Jack's opponent finally shows and their duel gets underway with the automatic activation of Speed World, a Field Spell that prevents non-Speed Spells from being used (and since it's automatically activated, you won't see it below on any of the pages).

Furthermore, duelist gain Speed Counters and the more they have the bigger the move they can make. Ther duel starts (and there's a new LP graphic that is much more sophisticated than the original at 3:05 into the episode but it will only be noted for this episode). Time passes and Jack gets to his victory move by attacking Hunter Pace with his Red-Dragon Archfiend to win the duel (and at 3:46 into the Japanese episode, there's no LP graphic). Our two-wheeled hero pushes his vehicle and overhears a TV with Jack getting an interview playing and stops by where three other characters reside and are watching the events on TV. A quick rev of the engine and the friends recognize him as Yusei and learn that Yusei was trying out an acceleration chip. A shorter character arrives, excited to give Yusei something and we learn his name is Rally. He hands Yusei the Skyline 31 Acceleration chip but the others are suspicious considering its mint condition and Rally's explanation, but Yusei takes the chip as it's just what he needs. Nervan (if I spelled that right) protests that Yusei should return it or they'll be tracked but Rally adds that Jack took Yusei's best card.

Just as Yusei figures, the chip does help his ride but before they can take it out for a test-run, spotlights appear and Nervon recognizes them from Sector Security. Yusei decides to jam the frequency to give the others a head start as the group goes their separate ways. Yusei makes it to the top steps and bolts away, right in the sights of an all-to-familiar face (Ushio from Yu-Gi-Oh Season 0, especially given his voice being very similar to Atem's) whom gives chase with the helicopter keeping up. They finally stop in a corridor and we learn it was all a set-up by Jack Atlas and that Yusei was nearly brought to the facility before. Yusei proposes a duel for his and his friends' freedom and the officer (named Officer Trudge) accepts under the condition that Yusei will put the blame on himself to perhaps make Trudge a sergeant.

The duel gets underway as Trudge plays Assault Dog (1200) in Attack Mode (complete with a new ATK graphic as well as shown at 12:21 into the episode). With that, he sets 1 card to end his turn. Yusei draws and plays Speed Warrior (900) in Attack Mode, prompting ridicule from Trudge before its ATK doubles (due to its effect but they don't tell you that) to 1800. Its attack destroys AD and leaves Trudge down to 3400 LPs (despite his score showing him with 3800 LPs at 13:16 into the episode). However, since AD went to the Graveyard from battle, Trudge can play another AD from his Deck. Yusei isn't surprised that Trudge is using the same deck and sets 1 card to end his turn, returning SW's ATK to normal. Trudge draws and tributes his AD from play for Handcuffs Dragon (1800) in Attack Mode. His attack with it lets Yusei activate Scrap-Iron Scarecrow to negate the attack but Trudge counters with Wiretap to negate SIS' effect and destroy it. His replayed attack destroys SW and leaves Yusei down to 3100 LPs.

Yusei draws and plays Sonic Chick (300) in Defense Mode and (and at 14:40 into the episode, the monster turns blue instead of resting on its card hologram like the past Yu-Gi-Oh series). He sets 2 cards to end his turn so Trudge draws and discards 3 monsters for Montage Dragon (3000) in Attack Mode (and from 15:16 to 15:24 into the episode, the card's effect is actually elaborated on, which also never occurred in previous Yu-Gi-Oh series so this is actually helpful if they keep this up). His attacks destroy SC and leave Yusei down to 100 LPs. Yusei draws and summons Junk Synchron (1300) in Attack Mode (and Tuner Monsters get their own explanation from 16:33 to 16:37 into the episode) and Trudge is surprised Yusei has a Tuner monster. Furthermore, Yusei activates Graceful Revival to bring back Speed Warrior (GR lets you revive a Level 2 or lower monster from the Grave like SW but they don't tell you that either).

Next he sends his two monsters to the Graveyard for Junk Warrior (2300) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Vision Wind (more specifically Speed Spell Vision Wind as Speed World is in play), which he won from Trudge earlier in his life and uses it to bring back the Level 2 Speed Warrior, raising JW's ATK by 900 to 3200. (The real JW only gains ATK for the Level 2 monsters on the field. Since Yusei had none, it wouldn't have gained any ATK.) His attack with JW takes out Trudge's Handcuffs Dragon to leave Trudge down to 2000 LPs and activating  HD's effect to equip itself to JW and lower its ATK by 1800 to 1400. However, Yusei activates Equip Shot to move Handcuffs Dragon to Trudge's own Montage Dragon, lowering its ATK by 1800 to 1200 and freeing JW and restoring its ATK to 3200. Furthermore, the two monsters must battle (again they don't tell you that) so JW takes out the weakened MD to win the duel and cause Trudge to spin out. (At 19:45 into the episode, we just get a square with an embedded "x" instead of "defeat" to indicate that Trudge lost, making it hard to understand what's going on.) Yusei leaves Trudge with a lesson about not underestimating Satellite residents but Trudge isn't giving up so easily. Yusei returns to Satellite and is determined to make it to Domino City (indicating that it's just the original Domino City from Yu-Gi-Oh with changes).
