True and False: Titanic History (Page 3)

What was Titanic?
R.M.S Titanic (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line.

Myth #3: Speed Record?
Another myth claims Titanic was speeding through ice to break a speed record.
1. The reality is the Olympic Class liners were not built for speed and instead mostly relied on luxury.

2. A lot of this myth stems from an alleged conversation with Captain E.J. Smith and Bruce Ismay overheard during dinner and is likely a misremembering of what was actually discussed.

3. In fact, the more likely comments from Ismay were that Titanic was making good time and could well reach New York City in less time.
