What was Titanic? R.M.S (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line. Fact #2: Luxury When it came to decorating, her builders didn't cut her passengers short. She had a vast gymnasium, complete with a variety of equipment from bicycles to an electric camel. The 1st Class Smoking Room had its own working fireplace. First and Second Cass had access to the Grand Staircases, the larger of which ran 5 Decks down. Several cabins were private suites on the Boat Deck. Each class of passengers had their own dining saloon. If you were a first class passenger on the forward Grand Staircase, there was also the Purser's Office on the C-Deck landing where you could get tickets for a variey of other luxuries on board like the Turkish Bath. Second Class also had their own Purser's Office.
