Titanic History: The Truth (Page 8)
What was Titanic? R.M.S (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line. Fact #8: Decks Titanic and her sisters weren't just one or two-Deck ships. They were large enough to have around 10 Decks. Each Deck had its own theme of sorts with the Boat Deck housing the ship's lifeboats, A-Deck being a more sheltered place for passengers to walk, etc. The Boat Deck of any ship is probably the most remembered as lives will depend on it one way or the other. A-Deck also houses the ship's rear mast and unlike Olympic, this area was partly enclosed with screens. B-Deck is comprised of the Forecastle Deck on the the bow, the row of square windows for passenger cabins and the Poop Deck on the Stern, which gives the Deck its name because of the Docking Bridge. C-Deck houses more passenger cabins, including the Straus Cabins (and coincidently is the Deck your cabin is on for Titanic: Adventure Out of Time). D-Deck of course houses the multiple Dining Saloons and the 1st Class Reception area. Generally, the lower you go in the ship, the fewer areas passengers have to roam around. E-Deck is generally rooms for passengers and crew. F-Deck follows much of E-Deck, except with a few different rooms like the Squash Court. G-Deck has a few more rooms like the ice cream room and of course more passenger cabins. Pretty much everything below this is cargo and machinery.
